Ava was alone on the floor near the closet, she had asked Zari to give her some time alone as she broke down over Sara's sweater. The clothes she was wearing were in a small pile next to her as she was now in sweats and Sara's sweater. She did not want to move so she stayed in the same position for a while. She thought of Sara.
Her smile, her laugh, her bright blue eyes, her body, everything. She closed her eyes and tried to remember her body, how it felt against her, how they would hold each other after countless hours of sex. Ava so desperately wanted her back, she needed her back. She wished that this was a bad dream and she would wake up soon, this had to be a bad dream. Sara couldn't be gone, she had to come home.
Suddenly there were no more tears, there was just anger. Anger towards herself. She didn't think she deserved to miss. She blamed herself for her death, her mind kept telling her it was her fault.
Sara deserved someone better. She deserved someone who would have noticed she was gone, someone who wouldn't have been so intoxicated so they wouldn't have left her behind. Someone who would have turned around.
First, Atropos.
She almost died and then was blind. If I had been there I could have done something. I couldn't even help Mick that day.
Then, the zombies.
I stood there, doing nothing as those zombies ripped her apart. I stood and watched and did nothing.
Ava let out a shaky breath and closed her eyes. She could still hear Sara's screams of pain.
Then the abduction.
I didn't turn around. I left her behind.
Three times, three times I haven't been able to protect her, keep her safe.
These thoughts kept running through her mind. She loved Sara so much but she didn't think she was allowed to grieve. She blamed herself and would forever.
Ava got up from the floor and went over to the closet again. She grabbed one of her signature turtlenecks and a pair of jeans. She slowly removed the sweater wanting the comfort of Sara's sweater to last longer.
After she had finished changing and cleaned up the small mess she had made, she made her way to find the legends.
"Gideon, where are the legends?" She asked her pausing for a moment to let the AI answer.
"In the lab, captain." Gideon replied. Ava cringed.
"Don't call me that." Ava replied bitterly
"My apologies, Ms. Sharpe." Ava didn't say anything after that and began walking towards the lab.
As she was making her way towards the lab her mind replayed the word captain. She thought of the time Sara scared her in the bathroom and asked her to be interim captain. Ava had been so nervous of her first mission with the legends alone. Ava remembered their call after her first mission. Sara had obviously kept her promise of 'thanking her', and after Sara kept telling Ava how proud she was of her. Sara told her how she knew she'd absolutely kill it and most importantly she told her how much she loved her.
Ava smiled at the memory and her eyes watered. She missed her so much. Then her mind went dark again.
She walked into the lab and saw the other legends sitting in silence. The movie that once was playing was no longer on and there was just a black screen staring back at them. When they saw Ava standing in front of them 'put together' as if nothing was wrong, they all looked at her in shock. They did not expect her to be up and out of her room this quick.
