Chris parked the car a good distance away from my house, his modified engine is loud enough to wake up my parents.

They will be pissed if they find me sneaking in.
I go around the house and step on the generator that powers the air conditioning and reach for the nearby tree. I continue climbing the tree till I reach the window of my bedroom.

Our house is spacious but too much noise could still get me noticed. I slide the window up little by little praying to God that it doesn't.

Finally, a feeling of relief flows over me as I step into my bedroom.
I changed quietly into my sleeping clothes and played comfortably on my bed and allowed my exhaustion to take me to sleep.

11:30 AM

I have no reaction to the voices down the hall, my body is too tired to deal with it.
Though that isn't my choice to make.

My door is busted sides open, and although the loud bang made my whole body jolt, I continue to pretend I was asleep and didn't get up until I felt the force of a hand pulling my head up by my hair and ice-cold water is splashed on to my face forcing me to react now that my pillow and sheets are all cold and wet.

I pant rubbing the water out of my eyes to see my father standing firmly looking down on me.

His face is red and his eyes are filled with fury. I know the blood on his veins is boiling by the look he has on his face.

"Where the hell were you last night?" He said clenching his fist.

"Shit, jeez I-"

"Don't use that language on me!"

"Sorry," I say irritated.

"I'm sorry, what?" He growled.

"Dad, I'm sorry Dad."

His hand collided with the back of my head causing me to jump back.
"Ray please." My mother says hiding her cracking voice.
He shoves her back out of my room, "you don't have a say in this!"

He turns back to me leaning over me keeping eye contact.

"No, I'm not your dad right now, I am sorry what?"
He yells as I shrink myself from the pressure.

"Sir...I'm sorry sir."

"No son of mine is out doing God knows what all night."

The doorbell rings

"I'll get it my mom says quickly going down the flight of stairs."

I was alone for now with my dad in my room.
"I am only going to ask you once." He says.
"What the hell were you last night?"

At a loss of what to say I stay silent enough until mom calls my name from downstairs.

My dad turns towards the doorway.
"Jared come down here."

After a brief pause, my dad speaks.
"Listen to your mother."
I speed walk down the stairs and to the front door.

To my surprise, it was Chris.

"Hey, Jared!" He says holding out his hand which collided with him and led to a bro hug.
I held him a little tighter trying to give off the signal that him showing up kinda saved my life. I'm glad to see him.

"Chris, it's so nice to see you again!" My mom says hugging him too.

"How long has it been?" She says.

"Good question," he says chuckling a bit. "Two years," he answered.

"It still feels like so long."

My Dad comes down the steps his rage in all gone now, he is deceivingly calm.
