The first race.

There two cars lined up with me except for the guy who challenged me

The door to the mustang was open and Chris came a kneeled beside me. "Listen, this guy isn't just your average street racer he has some serious skills and he has never lost a race. So I need you to play it smart, if you can't beat him at least don't come in last. You'll earn enough rep like that."

I nod. "Who is he?" I asked.

"His name is Kyler. He is bad news for people like you."
"People like me?" I ask.
"Yes," he says bluntly. "He is an heir to his family dynasty, you know, like the Mafia."
After that word comes out of his mouth my blood runs cold. Just like anyone would, I start to have second thoughts, pissing this guy off could be life-threatening
"Kyler earns all sorts of money from places and jobs we know nothing about and he never loses."

A slight feeling of confidence brushes over me.

"That I'd like to test that theory," I say.

"No, you don't," Chris says before walking away.

As he walks away I am left to wonder. Why? Why would he let me challenge a royalty mafia guy? Is it for me to learn my lesson? To keep me at my place?

Joseph takes his spot as he stands on the sidelines.

"Ok look, this Mustang is supped up for all kinds of races so I'm confident enough to say that this thing roles faster than any other mustangs that the cool kids at your school are proud of, But it's not quite finished, it's not one hundred percent ready to race."

"What?" I reply lifting my eyebrows.
It's not the best feeling when you are about to street race a possible killer who earns money for it.
Kyler's viper pulls to the left side of my car. He revs his engine to get my attention.

"Listen, you'll be fine just do everything you normally do when you drive, but never, ever push this button!" He pointed towards a red button on the steering wheel.

I took a glance and nodded back to him.

"No, no, no, you don't understand, NEVER push this button, you are not allowed to, under any circumstance, ever push this button! I don't care if you are losing from an inch or a whole damn mile."
He continued.

"Don't. Push. That. Button."

I am confused, what is it? A self-destruct button?

I nod my head once more trying to show that I understand.

He closes the door and walks to the sideline.
I rolled up my windows but that didn't even silence the sound of the car's engines revving next to me. Kyler's silver viper revived and the aggressiveness of his car startled me, but I try to ignore it. The crowd on the sideline cheered.

Maybe Chris and Joseph believe in me.

In the crowd, Joseph stands next to Chris who has his arms crossed. "He's not going to win, Chris says. "I know." Joseph response.

I look to my right. I see a Mazda RX7 on the far end and a Honda s2000 in-between the Mazda and my car.
I look to my left and see Kyler rolling his window down.

I am hesitant but I do the same to hear what he has to say.
He leans over his passenger seat and yells something over the sound of revving engines.

"This ain't no ten-second race." He says with a smirk on his face. Then a screen with a GPS came online and routed our direction.
Then most of the crowd started leaving the scene on the back of these trucks, only a few people stayed behind. Where are they going?
