The favor

It's been a minute since the school bell rang and summer has officially started.

The one reason I wanna get home is that my best friend Chris is back from Florida. I haven't seen him in two years. I felt so alone without him, and he is finally back. My other friends knew him too. Chris isn't my only friend of course but he is my closest. He knows my other friend Tobey and they used to do some street racing but they never told me a whole lot about it.

They said it's something a regular person can't just join in on. But the truth is, I'm not a regular person. I don't know what I want to do in life and I don't care.
Honestly, it feels like life is too long for me to live through.

The bus makes a stop by my house. Impressive how time flies when you're lingering through you're thoughts.

As I walk out of the bus my phone rings, a casual ring to nothing too custom. I hold it up to my ear and listen to a familiar voice on the other end.

"Hey, Jared!" Chris's voice speaks through. "Chris!" I say stepping off the bus.

"Hey, I'm on my way to pick you up, remember when we talked earlier?"

"Yeah, I remember. So you gonna take me finally?"

"Yeah let me just get there." "Alright see you here." I hang up and enter my house.
My dad is Usually never home he gets back late from work the majority of the time.

My mom greets me in the foyer. She stands in front of me checking my well-being. "How was your last day of school?"

"It was better than the rest of the year," I reply. "Well you just have one more year to worry about and you'll be fine."

"You're right," I say.

A long silence comes on until my mom finally asked something.

"What do you want for dinner?"

"Nothing," I responded a little too fast.

"Nothing? What? Do want to stave?"

"No, it's cause Chris is back from Florida and we made plans to go somewhere."

Her face began to relax her face almost looked like one of curiosity and concern. "Is he back?" She asked wanting to sound surprised.

"Where are you guys going?" She asked.

"Just to hang out," I respond. "We are thinking Chinese or Italian cause I can't get over the sweet orange chicken, though I can't deny Italian with the sauces and bread, oh the bread is fantastic," I say pinching my thumb and index finger together and kissing it as a symbol of perfection. She smiles but still doesn't seem to psych about me taking a drive with Chris.

My parents caught me street racing once and I was a sophomore when they did. To this day they are still very on edge about letting me go out but my mom is more forgiving and gives me more chances than I deserve. My dad is tougher though. He'd rather me have a hard shell than soft skin and he'd kick my ass if he found out about any street racing ordeal.

A car pulls up outside. It's Chris.

"Mom I have to go," I say rushing to the door. "Be careful." The only thing I can make out as I leave my house. A light gray car waits for me outside my house.

I step out and walk towards his car the engine is still on, it a little softer than I thought it would be, the car look as intense as I expected.
Just a regular four-door Buick car. The door opens for me and Chris is smiling at me from the passenger seat and the driver greets me. No one was in the back seat, so the door must have open by itself. I'm not familiar with this model I'm not familiar at all with cars, I just drove them.... recklessly.
