Warnings: mention of divorce, arguing

Charlie frustratedly pulled at his sleeves, pacing in the slightly confined space of your kitchen as you kept to yourself while perched on one of the lounge chairs, fiddling restlessly with your hands on your lap. Weeks of no communication and a string of broken promises had led to this. Both of you spent after enduring the past hour filled with spewed words of resentment mixed with a pointless argument of pent-up anger.

"Do you regret it?" Your voice trembled, breaking the lingering tension in the air, your fists lightly clenched at your sides as you stood to walk towards him.

"Regret what?"

"Any of it..." He hesitated for a short while before letting out a sigh. Your mouth instantly opened to tell him to forget it all, but he cut you off.

"No...not all of it." Charlie swallowed thickly as if the words were sandpaper grating his tongue. Not all of it, your stomach wrenched, a heavy sob escaping you abruptly. At that moment, you would've done anything to take it all back—all of the love, touches, compromises, the vulnerability you stupidly gave him access to. Take everything you had given to him back so then perhaps you would feel whole again. Perhaps you wouldn't feel the emptiness he had just created in your heart. It didn't matter how much love you had for him. Because you soon realized, it was never going to be enough to make him stay. "Sweetheart?" Charlie's hands cradled the tops of your shoulders, snapping you out of it. His eyes slowly met yours, wincing away at what stared back at him; it chilled him to his core. His words echoed in your head as the tears slipped past your cheek before muttering to him.

"I want a divorce."
