The streets of Yamatoro (feels nice to have a name to refer to) were empty, completely deserted by the populace. Only some guards were left wandering around in small groups.
In the main avenue, Fubuki, Mio and Ayame were walking slowly toward the center of the city. As they passed, the soldiers in the surroundings caught glimpse of Ayame and started gossiping.
"It's her, she's the one who destroyed the guards outside."
"She's following Lady Ookami and Lady Shirakami."
"Did they beat her?"
"No, i heard even they couldn't do anything."
"She's a demon, why are they escorting her?"
"Yeah, she's dangerous."
"But she's pretty too, I wonder if she's really a savage."
"Don't let your guard down! She may look cute, but she's still a demon, she's probably older than your whole family combined, ancestors included."
"That's true, I heard demons can live for ages."
Hearing the gossipers around, Mio and Fubuki looked at Ayame to see how she was reacting. But to their surprise, Ayame did not seem troubled at all, as if she wasn't even hearing anything. But she was indeed hearing everything, as a demon her senses where on different level compared to regular people.
Seeing Mio and Fubuki gaze at her, she quickly understood what was in their mind and reassured them.
"Don't worry about me, I don't mind any of it. Like I said before, since we never appear before others, it can't be helped if rumors spread about us. I don't remember ever being called cute or pretty though."
As she said that, her cheeks changed to a light taint of red as she looked at her feet. Seeing that, Fubuki and Mio felt invaded by a warm sensation.
"Now that I look at her properly, she really is cute. She looks like she could be my little sister. I almost want to pet her." Thought Mio.
"Oi, you just thought about something weird, didn't you? I felt a chill in my back."
"What are you talking about, we should be the one shivering knowing what you can do." Replied Fubuki.
"For real, it was the first time in my life I felt so helpless in a fight."
"I mean, I am an Oni with centuries of battle experience and training, so of course I know how to use these." Retorted Ayame proudly while pointing at her katanas.
"By the way, how did you manage to keep all the soldiers alive. I clearly saw you slashing at them with your katanas, how is it that not a single of them had any cut mark?" Asked Fubuki with curiosity.
"My katanas are like extensions of my arms, when I wield them, they are a part of me, of my own body, so if I don't want them to cut, they don't."
"How does that even work? That doesn't make sense, you're saying that a weapon designed to cut doesn't cut because you don't want it too?" Mio was looking suspiciously at Ayame as she said that.
Ayame looked at Mio and Fubuki and saw in their eyes that they did not believe what she was saying.
"Should I give them a quick demonstration?" she thought.
She looked around and saw a chariot with big stone blocks and wood logs piled in it. She walked to it, and casually picked up one block with her hand. She placed it on the ground and drew her black katana that she swung down before putting it back in its sheath. Without a sound, the block separated in two identical pieces.
