I woke up, bright and early, in my bed, prepared to depart with Draco. I got up, brushed my teeth and hair, and put my stuff together. I had my coat and my bags and everything and I was about to leave with it all when I remembered.
I had to tell Professor Dumbledore that we would be leaving for a week. I wondered what he would say...I knew from Harry that he was a very clever man and he knew well...many secrets.
What if he knew about my dream? He would treat me as if I was like Harry. I wouldn't be able to take that. Unlike Harry, he and I had never talked, never had a meeting, and honestly, have never had a conversation unless it was small talk.
I was glad of this for I didn't want all of that attention. It was much too overwhelming and that would risk everyone knowing about my origins.
I rushed out of the dorm, running down the stairs, "Hey there sunshine, why in such a rush?" Fred Weasley said as he stared at my worried face.
"Oh it's nothing, just have to talk to old Dumbledore." Fred nudged George and whispered something to him, but it was inaudible sadly. "I'll see you two in a week, don't have too much fun without me. If the others ask my whereabouts just say I'm visiting family, alright? Thanks."
Before they could say anything, I went outside of the room, "Hold your horses missy, you're going to make me fall over!" The Fat Lady cried as I slammed the door shut. I honestly didn't care for what she was saying, whether she knew that or not. She was a major drama queen. I still remember her from 3rd year when Sirius Black came and she was making the largest fuss. It was rather pathetic.
My feet were walking fast and heavy, but not as fast as my heart was beating. The worry only increased when I walked right into him when I was turning the corner!
"What a pleasant surprise, Miss Brown," Dumbledore said calmly, "I was actually just looking for you. It seems as if you were looking for me as well." His seemingly carefree tone was soothing and reassuring to my ears as my heart began to pound slower and steadier.
"Oh um yes I was going to tell you something," I said nervously, "but why were you getting me?" He looked at me with a warm smile. His hands folded and his half moon spectacles glistened in the candlelight. "The Malfoy's have arrived and are waiting for you in the Great Hall. I expect you were going to tell me about this just now?"
I nodded my head, relieved. I turned to get my bags but he stopped me, "Miss Brown, I can't help but feel that you are leaving for an important cause. It could just be my superstitions, but people don't usually flee for a week with those they are not particularly fond of."
He was right. This must seem very suspicious and nothing goes on without Professor Dumbledore knowing. "I've actually become quite close with Draco," I said, shy. He didn't seem surprised, but was listening to my explanation, "Draco and I need to do...something in order to-"
"In order to find out if your sister has fallen into the hands of Lord Voldemort?" He asked, his hands still folded calmly. He seemed delighted that I was shocked by his discovery. He stared into my eyes, "I will be writing you to make sure that you are in no harm while on your visit to the Malfoy Manor. I have heard there has been suspicious activity there lately..." He finished, walking away with a playful air around him.
That was the oddest encounter I had ever had. He was so...calm and well surprising. I had no idea he was like that. No wonder Harry was so fond of him. He seemed like a good mentor.
A house elf came scurrying past with my bags in hand and I followed right behind her. I had know this elf from sneaking into the kitchens with the twins. Her name was Julia and she was very kind and lovely. "Thank you so much, I hope to see you again soon," I said gratefully, as we arrived in the Great Hall. She bowed with a smile as she left the bags with the Malfoy's servants.
There they all were.
The Malfoys. Perfect intimidation.
Mrs. Malfoy was dressed in a long black and grey dress with a similarly colored cloak. Her hair was gorgeous and to be fairly honest, I was jealous I hadn't thought of the trend. She looked very kind and caring, but I knew that she was probably cruel on some level. Even if you did bad deeds for a good cause, they were still bad deeds.
Draco was dressed in a black suit and looked well...hot for lack of a better term. He had obviously attempted to slick his hair back, but failed, so it was messy, but I liked it personally. He smiled at me softly as I entered and nodded.
Mr. Malfoy had to be the most frightening person I had ever encountered besides Tom. His eyes pierced my soul and burned my hopes. His hair was long and white, slicked back (correctly I might add), probably longer than my own. His cloak was long and black and it was a nice contrast to his hair.
"Hello there, Miss Brown," He said with a sneer, "I think you are a tad bit late."
"Yes I know and I apologize, sir. I ran into Professor Dumbledore-"
"Dumbledore? Well how surprising," He said walking up to me, Mrs. Malfoy and Draco following behind him. I nodded, intimidated by his presence. Who knew that a single person could make the air feel so cold.
"Leave the poor girl alone Lucius. Nice to meet you darling, Narcissa," Mrs. Malfoy said, holding out her gloved hand for me to shake. "Lucia Brown, nice to make your acquaintance." I responded, shaking her hand.
"Shall we leave then?" Draco asked his parents. "Yes we shall," Mrs. Malfoy stated, taking Mr. Malfoy's arm, leading the way out of the hall. Draco offered his arm to me, "Why thank you. You're such a gentleman." I said letting out a laugh while wrapping my arm around his. He chuckled and led me out.
Their carriage was nice and modern, too much black for my taste but it definitely fit the Malfoy's. My nervousness was rising, for I didn't know what we would be doing on this trip. What if I had to come face to face with Tom? What then? Draco would know that I was his daughter and abandon me, leaving me with the horrendous beast named Voldemort.
He wouldn't do that to me.
No. He wouldn't.
Right?
