Maira McCarthy was dreading this morning, why? Because she had to go to school. It wasn't because she got bullied or anything like that, it was just simply a huge shitehole. But she had to go, it was a Catholic school, no way of getting out it. After tiredly changing out of her pjs and putting on the green uniform, she went down her stairs to get her breakfast.
Instead of having her blazer on however, she had her denim jacket on. Although it was extremely small on her since it was the same one she had since she was a wain, she was still begging that her Ma would let her wear it. Her Ma was busy cleaning something to notice Maira walk in thankfully, so the girl grabbed a bit of toast that was on the table beside her extremely tired twin brother, Connor.
The plan was almost successful, until the floor made a huge creek to alert her Ma that someone had walked into the kitchen. "Oi!" Her Ma shouted as she turned around to see Maira attempting to still sneak out with her denim jacket on.
"Yes mother?" Maira politely answered.
Her Ma's eyes widened. "Use that voice with me again and I'll get that wooden spoon!" She threatened, Maira kicking herself mentally for sounding too posh. "Why have you got that?"
"Mammy, it's the latest trend!" Maira exclaimed, already seeing where this conversation was going.
Her Ma raised a brow. "Who started it? The Protestants?"
"No!" Maira defended, she had no idea if it was a trend with the Protestants, but she wouldn't really care if it was.
"Connor." Maria's Ma mumbled to her son, probably hoping that he would tell her the Protestant's really started the denim jacket trend again.
Connor eyes were still narrowed with how tired he was, also still in his pjs, most definitely he'd be late for school. He slowly turned around to look at his sister. "It's a denim jacket." He shrugged, not knowing what else to say.
"Is she telling the truth?!" Their Ma snapped at him.
Connor's brows furrowed in confusion. "Ma, I go to an all-boy's school."
Their Ma let out a huff of frustration. "You're not wearing it." She decided.
Maira's eyes widened. "What?!" She exclaimed.
"End of!" Her Ma shouted back to meet the volume of her daughter's voice.
"Christ sake!" Maira angrily huffed, trying to rip off the extremely tight jacket off. It took some effort, but it eventually came off, both her Ma and brother staring at her when she was struggling, knowing all she wanted to do was storm out the house like they did in the teen movies.
