Restart

Your voice was so soft,
like a whisper in fog.
I pressed my lips against yours,
hoping you were my frog.
But I learned that you weren't
bold enough to lie to my face.
So you mumbled it into oblivion,
as if the silence could fill in the space.
Now I lie awake to
the thump of my panging heart.
I wipe the tears away —
mentally preparing to restart.
But every laugh —
every smile.
Tell me how that
isn't worth your while.
So I'll carry along
and find someone new,
Who will actually want me —
But still love me like you.
