CHAPTER 3: NO BREAKS!

3 weeks later...

It's been 3 weeks, and there were 126 murders in the town and not a single clue yet.

The progress, in this case, is literally zero, the pressure from the government, they've also sent an additional team for help, but it was of no use, I've been working restlessly for the past few days and I want to take a day off today.

I did

*in daniels house*

a loud scream from up the stairs, it was Chris.

Chris: Emily, give me the laptop back

Emily: NO! You've played enough games now, I need it

Chris: " started screaming"

I rushed up the stairs to see what was happening, It's the kids again. I yelled, " what the hell happened now?"

Chris: Emily snatched the laptop in the middle of my game, and she is not returning it back

Emily: I need it for my homework dad

" Chris, you've played enough for today, Give the laptop to Emily, she has to work. and you! Go study!"

Chris: Yeah, Emily always gets what she wants (in a sarcastic tone)

I went down the stairs, grabbed a beer from the fridge, and sat beside Sarah, as she was watching the news

*IN NEWS*

"Earthquake with a magnitude of 10 in Australia, the biggest we have ever seen, a lot of lives have been lost and the rescue teams are doing their best to save the people who are trapped inside the buildings"

United nations have donated funds for the rescue"

Sarah looked at me and asked.

Sarah: Daniel, have you noticed that the weather is changing so fast these days?

I didn't understand, so I asked "like how?"

Sarah: it's been dark for the past few days like the sky is all red and overpoweringly dark and it's not joyful anymore like it used to be

"I think you feel like that because of the current situation in the town, with all this shit going around. I think It would be nice if u go and pay a visit to your parents with the kids for a few days"

Sarah: And leave you alone in this mess? No way, and it's not about that anyway, I've read it in a book once in the church library.

"Okay sweetie, wait! I don't want to hear about all that mythical stuff, I'm already so tired of this case.

There is a limit to the nonsense I tolerate, you know I don't believe in all that stuff, right? I mean, I respect your choices, you can do whatever you want but, I don't like it, I've never even been to church since my parents died, it's been more than 10 years now"

Chris comes down the stairs boiling and furious

Chris: I'm going to Tommy's house

Sarah: No, you are not going anywhere

*daniel's phone rings*

He picks up the phone from the table and it's Jonathan.

"He didn't call me since this morning, I thought there were no victims today.

I think I'm wrong after all"

Jonathan: I know that you are on rest today, I didn't want to call you, but...

*in the background*

Chris: Buy me a laptop then or else let me go to Tommy's house.

Sarah: The curfew is going to start! And it's not safe outside

Chris: mom! it's Tommy, I'll stay the night over there.

*they were making too much noise, I can't hear anything on the phone and I was already so frustrated" so I yelled at them*

" Shhh, can't you see? I'm talking on the phone here and it's important.

Jonathan, tell me what happened?"

Jonathan: I think u need to come to SilverLake forest ASAP

"Yeah, I'll be there"

Sarah: Chris wants to go to Tommy's house and stay the night over there or he wants a laptop and that too right now.

" Let him go then"

Sarah: Are you mad, Dan? You know what is going on out there and you want him to go out alone at this point in time?

Chris: I heard on the call, dad's going somewhere he'll drop me at Tommy's house.

" don't worry, I'll drop him and pick him up in the morning.

Go get in the car buddy"

Chris: bye mom, I'll see you tomorrow.

Sarah: please take care, don't leave the house until dad comes to pick you up.

*Chris goes and sits inside the car

I grabbed my coat, gun and was prepared to go to the site.

Sarah did not look happy at all*

I told her "it's going to be alright sweetie" I kissed her and then left.

I dropped Chris off at Tommy's house.

" don't go out in any case, stay indoors," I said.

Chris: yeah okay, bye dad, see ya tomorrow.

I left and after 20 mins I reached the silver lake forest. The whole team was over there, the fog is all over the place

I parked my car and started heading towards the crime scene.

A foul smell started coming as I was getting near.

I sighed in distress

*there were a pile of dead bodies drowned in their own blood*

Jonathan: 33 bodies in a single day at the same place.

I called forensics an hour ago to run some tests, and they have found this.

Jonathan handed me the reports

Jonathan: This time, they were not drugged or unconscious either. How can a single person kill 33 people?at the same time? it's not a single person for sure. One person cannot defeat 33 people, there must be a group.

" Whoever it is, they are not alone"

Jonathan: And that's not the bizarre thing yet, this time they didn't use any kind of weapon to rip hearts.

"What?"

Jonathan: They ripped the hearts of the victims with bare hands this time, I didn't understand the first time. We did run tests multiple times and the results were the same.

I don't know what kind of odd strength it was.

"Bare hands?" I was shocked and terrified by thinking about what we are going against.

Jonathan: They just clawed it out with ease.

"WHO or WHATEVER they are, we need to be more careful or we may end up dead too".
