Rose's POV
It was the middle of the night and I still knew that Ashton was here. I could see myself and him now. Ashton was holding something...small and thin. He chuckled. "I remember when you broke this. It was the first time I laid eyes on you." His eyes filled and tears, threatening to fall but he quickly blinked them away. "You were laughing and walking out of the library and turned around too fast when someone called your name and your hair caught my instrument and you pulled it out and broke my reed...I can still remember your face. Panic stricken like you broke something irreplaceable. I nearly stopped breathing. I was more afraid that I broke you than my reed. You're priceless, I can replace a reed but I could never..." He paused and took a deep breath. I could see him now and for the first time I saw pain and hurt in his eyes like he wanted me to come back. "Rose....please stay...I need you.." He gently grabs my hand and rubs it. He's. Holding. My. Hand. Okay, Rose. Keep calm, he's just a boy. But he's not just a boy, he's THE boy. The boy I've been waiting for. Wait. Why is he here? I guess i conditionally exist. I'm only real to him when I'm on my death bed and in the hallways I turn back into the wall flower. Wait! No! What are you doing?!? You can't just do that!!!

Ashton's POV
If I wasn't paying close attention I would've missed the lone tear that slithered down her pale cheek. I brushed it away with my thumb. Even when she was supposed to be at ease her frown was set. Stupid, stupid, stupid! I thought. She would've known I loved her if I wasn't so ignorant to what treasures I had before me. She deserved to be treated like a princess and I couldn't get over my social anxiety to even muster up the courage to speak to her. Outside of this room, the pressures of the world were suffocating me. If only she could hear me now. I could tell her. I leaned and kissed her forehead. She moved..does she know I'm here? No she can't, she's in a coma. Maybe forever. No Ashton, don't think that way. Then it just slipped out. I said it. Those three words that I've needed to say for two years now. "I love you Rose. I love your smile because it lights up the room. And the way your nose crinkles up when you laugh even though you find it annoying, it's mesmerizing, contagious even. The twinkle in your hazel eyes when you talk about something you're passionate about." I laughed a bit. "Rose, this is easy to tell you when you can't hear me but when you look at me I choke on my words and can't find the right ones to say to you. I'm sorry if you think I ignore you, I truly am. I just don't know how to adequately express how much you mean to me.You're my life support most days." Her EKG spiked for a few seconds and faded back to normal. That's weird. "Well I guess I should sleep. Please wake up in the morning..." I kissed her hand and then her forehead again and felt the world sigh as I fell asleep.
