Ryn's POV
Ryn glided down the crowded hall seamlessly slipping through the mass of students. She wasn't shy but quiet, preferring to fade into the background. It made things easier. Not many of them noticed her but she noticed all of them; every hyper extended knee and aching shoulder stood out plainly to her.
Ryn reached her locker and entered the combination. She switched out her books and quickly closed the metal door. Out of the corner of her eye she caught a glimpse of a face that made her do a double take, a face she thought she would never see again. But it was him.
Ryn turned on her heel and slipped into the sea of students. With any luck she was just as faceless to him as she was to everyone else, but as she sped away she could feel in the pit of her stomach that wasn't the case. There was something else swirling there inside her mixed in with fear. Excitement? No, she had come too far, and made too many vows for that. She was never going back.
Ryn hadn't made it to the end of the hall before she heard the familiar footsteps behind her. She abruptly turned and started walking toward the back deserted part of the school. If this was going to happen she wasn't going to do it in front of the people she had spent all this time convincing she was a quiet unassuming girl. She turned into one the more unused passageways and a thought occurred to her. Maybe if she could distract him, get away and disappear.
Ryn sent a renegade note book flying at his head and turned continuing in her original direction. He was ready and easily dodged it before calling after her playfully. "Didn't you miss me?"
Ryn bit her lip. Yes. "There's a reason I left." Her tone was cold but he wasn't easily fooled. Destran ran up right beside her. In one swift motion she let go of her books and swung at his face before the texts even hit the floor. But he was ready for her, he was always ready for her. He ducked his head back and caught her upper arm as it slid past him. There was a swift thud as the volumes of math and science hit the floor.
"You've gotten slow." He grinned knowing exactly what he was doing to her.
Ryn gave a slight grunt before twisting her arm around his so he was locked and unable to move the arm she was holding. "I don't fight anymore. For anyone."
"And yet your first instinct is still to hit me in the face." He swung his free arm at her head.
She blocked and swung at his. He was ready to block. "You just make it so inviting." Sarcasm dropped from her words. Ryn dragged her foot around behind his and pushed him down with all her force. He was ready for this too.
Destran wrapped his free arm around her waist to hold himself up before throwing the full force of his weight forward sending them backwards into the building behind her. He had her pressed against the wall, only this was no longer threatening, in fact, quite the opposite. Destran leaned in close to her ear. "Anything to get close to you."
Ryn felt the breath catch him her throat this was exactly what she had been afraid of.
He sat there waiting for her to say or do something while a thousand thoughts raced through her head. There was only one thing she could do and she felt the shattering before she even said it.
"Well, I've moved on." Ryn moved out from under him and away. It was the one thing he wasn't ready for.
