Jinx was amazed. He hadn’t kicked her out and he hadn’t hit her. When she was inside her room she slid down the wall and curled together. Her foot had gotten worse and she decided it was best to take a look at it. She slowly pulled up her patched and shabby jeans to revile a bloody dirty wound. It was definitely infected.

She carefully touched the swollen area, but winced in pain. Not knowing what to do she covered it up again and hoped it would get better by its own.

Jinx wasn’t allowed out that night nor did she get anything to eat. She was seriously getting hungry even though she had been needier before. She went to bed that night with an empty stomach and a leg that hammered in pain. She closed her eyes and tried to block the agony and hunger out. After several hours just laying in her bed and staring up in the sealing she finally fell asleep.

The next morning Snape sat in his living room, reading his paper as always. When the clock passed eleven he sighed and got up. Even though he was angry at her, she needed food. He made her some sandwiches and a cup of tea and walked with the food to the guest room where she was staying. He was surprised when he noticed she didn’t sit at the edge of the bed and waited for him, like she usually did.

He walked closer and noticed she looked paler than ever. Her bruised and dirty face was covered in sweat and she was slightly shivering. She looked really ill.

“Jinx, wake up.” He ordered, but the girl didn’t hear him. He grabbed her shoulder’s and tried to wake her up, but to no use. Jinx made some painful noises and moved a little, before she began to shake wildly. It looked like she was freezing even though her fever was really high. He pulled the sheets off her to try and cool her down. The girl began to whimper and curled together. Normally he would have just shouted ‘pull yourself together’, but he knew this was serious. He noticed her leg, it was swollen. Carefully he pulled her shabby jeans up and gasped of the sight that met him.

Jinx woke up several hours later. She had a wet cloth on her forehead and her fever was down. She moaned and moved a little. She could hear someone shift their weight beside her and she turned her head to look at Snape.

“You leg is bandaged, but you have to stay in bed for a couple of days.” He said the words slowly, with a scowl plastered on his pale face. Jinx didn’t have the strength to respond. Instead she made a small nod and closed her eyes again.

When Jinx woke up Snape was still sitting beside her. He gave her a plate of food and ordered her to eat. Because of her illness she had problems eating, but Snape didn’t leave before she had eaten everything. The roasted chicken would have tasted like heaven on any regular day, but not this day.

A couple of days passed by and Snape would finally allow her out of the room decorated in green and silver. She had problems walking because she couldn’t put any weight on her bandaged leg so she had to support herself at the walls.

On the way to the living room her foot failed and she fell straight to the floor with a large dunk. “Do you need help?” Snape was standing above her, his lips quirked into a smirk. Making her feel useless.

“Yes.” She whispered, having her head down. Snape sighed and with no effort at all grabbed her arm and let her support her weight at him.

With a dunk she was placed in his beige couch and laid her leg up on the small coffee table who had several books balancing at it already. Usually Snape wouldn’t allow it, but he shook it off and made himself comfortable in his green favorite armchair.

“Jinx who are your parents?” He suddenly spoke. Jinx looked down at her palms, deciding if she should answer or not. After a while of silence she thought he had given up and glanced up at Snape. He was still staring at her, waiting for an answer.

“They didn’t want me anymore.” She said after a while, looking down at her palms again. Fortunately Snape let it go and continued on his reading, it would only have led to unwanted tears if he continued.

Half an hour passed by and Snape let out a long sigh. Jinx had been sitting in the exact same position the entire time and hadn’t spoken one word. “I will take you with me to Hogwarts when the summer ends.” He stated firmly. She looked up at him in confusion and he rolled his eyes at her and handed her a letter.

“You are a witch Jinx.” Snape said before she had the chance to open her mouth. Jinx glared at him. Not knowing what to do. She searched Snape’s face for any flicker of lie or humor, but nothing. She had been stupid thinking Snape would have any humor anyway. Finally she said. “Okay I believe you.” This time it was Snape’s turn to blink in surprise.

“You do?” He sounded confused, but not angry. That made Jinx feel like she accomplished something. She made a small smile which he didn’t reply.

It became silent again and Snape for once in a lifetime couldn’t bare the silence anymore. “Tomorrow I will take you to Diagon Alley. Hogwarts has given you a scholarship to pay for your equipment.”
