I decided to take Demi's advice and spend time with my dad. Thing is, i had absolutely no idea how to "spend time" with him. We couldn't just sit around all day, it would be boring and extremely awkward. I really didnt want it to be awkward.

I came up with the lamest idea to just go see a scary movie and then grab dinner. Honestly, I had no clue what else to do, I barely knew anything about the guy for Christ's sake.

So, i called him in the morning and he drove over to my house later that evening.

I drove my own car to the theatre, since he had no idea where it was, and tried to make at least a little conversation during the ride.

"So okay, i know its lame, but movie & dinner was all I could think of. I dont really know what kind of things you're into and- "

"It's okay", he cut me off with a laugh. "I'm just glad to even be within the vicinity of you after all these years."

I gave him a small smile then returned my eyes to the road.

"Did you happen to see the autograph I got for you?", he smiled.

"Yeah", I laughed. "Thank you."

"You're mom told me that you adored her and coincidentally I ended up serving pizza at her house. I couldnt even believe it."

I chewed on my lip, pondering on whether I should tell him about Demi or not. Although he was my dad, I couldnt say that I actually trusted him yet. I only just met him yesterday, he was practically a stranger.

"Wow, that's pretty amazing", I enthused, only slightly faking my smile because I already knew what happened, but it was still amazing.

"So you work at a pizza place?", I asked, trying to change the subject.

"Yeah, Domino's. I actually work at the Bank of America dealing with the files and everything. I work at Dominos just to make extra money on the side."

"That's cool", I nodded.

"What about you Ms One-year-left-of-college?" I grinned at his words. "Your mom told me you were studying to become a veterinarian, correct?"

I nodded proudly. "Yep. I've been been volunteering as an assistant in the local pet hospital. It's not much but i'm practically guaranteed a job there once I graduate."

"Out of curiosity, what made you decide to become a vet?"

I shrugged slightly while making a right turn. "I just love animals, which is ironic because I dont have any pets. I saw this bruised up dog limping on the sidewalk one day. He just looked so beat down and after taking a few steps he just crumbled to the ground. I ran to him and I didnt know what to do. He died", I frowned at the memory. "Anyway, ever since then I've wanted to become a vet and help animals."

"Wow, that's inspiring", he said.

I laughed, assuming he was joking. My story was a bit overdramatic, I guess, but that's honestly what inspired me to become a vet.

I pulled into the parking lot of the cinema and after circling once, found a parking space near the entrance.

"What are we going to see again?", he asked while i pulled my keys out of the ignition.

"Oh, um. The Woman in Black 2. I hope you're not afraid of scary movies."

He scoffed,"Are you sure you're not the one afraid, little girl?"

"I'm not little", I laughed while getting out of the car. He whispered a barely audible, "I know."

It was crazy how effortless this seemed. The easy conversation and jokes. I didnt think it would be this easy. I imagined strained silence and forced conversation, but it was the complete opposite.
