It's been awhile but I finally got motivated to write again....
This is sort of a short chapter, but going forward they won't be as short.
Today is the day. They day Clay had been dreading for a week. He made his way towards his desk where the flyer lay. He picked it up and examined it. The big black bubble letters say that is starts at 10:30 A.M.
"Great it's going to be a long day," he said to himself with a sigh.
He got dressed and decided to wear black shorts and a black short-sleeved shirt; it was what he normally wore when he went out. He didn't think he needed to wear anything special, for something he cared nothing about. He walked into his bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror replaying Nick's words from the week before; find that someone to be around... waiting for someone like you to be their person. He didn't know what that meant. Clay didn't exactly have a good track record for relationships in the past. Most of his ex's were toxic and never lasted long. He gave up on finding "the one" after his last girlfriend, who was the worst of them all. She was never physically abusive to him, but she was verbally abusing him for the 3 years they were together- his longest relationship. After her he was convinced that he wasn't made for a long-term relationship and took a break from dating anyone.
Shaking the memories of his ex's, he splashed some water on his face and walked out of his room. Walking down the dim light hall filled with family pictures of him and his 2 sisters when they were younger. Not many with their dad, the only pictures of him were the ones from their parents' wedding. Walking into the kitchen sat his mom and Abby- the youngest of his sisters. They were eating eggs and bacon that his mom had prepared, which was normal for her. She always loved to do something special for her kids on the weekends.
"Hey loser, finally decided to get up. I bet you wanted to be fully energized for your fun day ahead," Abby said smirking. He was guessing his mom told his sisters about the "Day at the Park".
"Haha, very funny," he said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes, he walked towards the counter, and grabbed a plate. Sitting across the counter from them, they ate quietly.
Abby got up and walked towards her room, leaving his mom and him alone.
"You are dreading that I'm making you go to this, aren't you," she questioned with a look of worry in her eyes.
"While I'm not excited about it, I talked to Nick, and he agreed that I should go. He says that I could probably meet "my person" whatever the hell that means." His mom rolled her eyes, she hated when her kids cussed or used foul language but she never said anything about it.
"He wants you to try to find someone special, nothing wrong with that he's your best friend looking out for you. Can't be mad about it."
"I know I can't be upset with him about it but remember last time I thought I found "the one" it didn't end very well." Thoughts of her were coming back to him, her talking shit about how he will never amount to anything and how his dad would be disappointed in how he little of a life he has. Shaking it off, and getting out of the daze that seemed to have trapped his mind for a couple of seconds while his mom kept her eyes on him, having a look of worry written on her face. "I am fine mom, I swear," he tried to reassure her.
"I know you are alright. Everyone has tough relationships; we grow from them, and we learn from out past." He gave her a soft smile nodding. He got up and grabbed both their plates and placed them in the sink. He walked around to where she was sitting, leaned down and hugged her. He gave her a kiss, before saying a quick goodbye and headed out of the door.
