CHAPTER ONE

Introduction

He left.

Steve left me, for her.

He really did.

Bucky had told me of Steve's plan, but I didn't believe him. Why would I have?

"Steve doesn't plan to come back to now." Bucky had said. "He's going back for Peggy."

Lies.

Because why would Steve leave all that we had for a woman he met over 80 years ago? He would never do that.

Or so I thought.

When Steve came back he was sat on a bench. He was old and he was smiling.

My eyes filled with tears and my knees gave out from under me. "No." I whispered.

I felt strong arms pick me up and stand me up straight. "I know you're hurt, but you have got to stay strong. I'm sorry he did this to you."

It was Bucky.

I listened to him and stood straighter, but the tears could not be stopped.

Once Sam had finished talked to Steve, he then looked at me. Sadness clouded his wrinkled face.

"Come here." His frail voice called out to me. I obeyed. I made my way over to him and sat down.

"Why?" My voice croaked out. He looked like he didn't know how to respond to that. "How were you not over her? It's been 80 years. We've been together for over 6. Everything we've been through, snd you just leave me." I tried not to raise my voice. I don't think I could anyways.

My throat felt too heavy.

"I'm sorry, Y/N. I never wanted to hurt you." He placed a hand on my thigh.

I looked down at it and saw the ring.

"Well, that's exactly what you did."

I stood up quickly, and left.
