Chapter-6 : Escapism is a disease

One of the synonyms of escapism is daydreaming; which means to think of something else or to play a scene in your mind which has never or will never happen in real life. It also means to talk with imaginary people who does exist or doesn't.

To make an imaginary friend and talking with him or her all the time is schizophrenia. That's another thing. That's a human syndrome. But here I'm talking about escapism. One who daydreams a lot is called an escapist.

It can affect someone in many ways. Let's take a look at real life example :

I daydream a lot. I don't know why. I like to imagine things which will be funny or taking part in front of someone, although it'll never happen in life or if the situation comes, I will never act accordingly. People daydream just to get out of their busy life. I daydream to get out of the hustle I'm facing in my life.

Research shows that the people who escape from reality are depressed. Escapism is a medium of getting away from their daily life hustle. It can be good and bad in both ways.

As for example, daydreamimg means to imagine. If you are a story writer it will help you a lot. The more you can imagine the more you will be able to write something. That's how I write stories. Again on the bright side, you can be more creative, on your own way. I imagine to write; you can imagine to draw, paint, sing whatever you are good at.

But on the dark side, if you imagine miscellaneous scenes; like me, well then it can be a bad sign. I am both sided. I use it either to write or to think shit.

Now the question which remains is that how do you give up daydreaming?

Well, escapism can't be completely gone from a person's mind, but we can minimize it if we give our best. As for example, I keep myself present in front of people so that I don't talk with myself or make gestures which doesn't make any sense. Another thing I do is that whenever I am imagining something, I slap myself. Call me crazy but that helps. Again, whenever I'm thinking about something, I focus on the work that I was doing before I started imagining. That helps a lot. If you do something which you like do to the most, then do it. Like singing, watching movies, reading books etc. These will help you forget about your imagination and will help you to focus more on your real life work.
