Of course, Rain decided to follow me. She could have followed Hermione or any member of the Golden Trio or even a prefect like Draco Malfoy. I mean, sure, I'm a prefect. But I don't want to be. Another reason I don't want to be a prefect:

Draco Malfoy is a prefect.

Who wants to spend time around a bully like him? I don't that's for sure.

Anyway, I couldn't really shake Rain off my shoulder easily. She keeps talking, following me, she doesn't care that I'm ignoring her she just talks talks talks.

"Since you're new shouldn't you be going with the first years or something?" I interrupted her in the middle of her telling me about one of her dormmates Juliet who was really into acting.

"No, I got this letter from Dumbledore that said I should just follow a prefect."

"So why don't you go follow a prefect?" I asked as we neared the gates.

"Aren't you a prefect?" She asked and I could hear the innocent smile on her face.

"Yes," I sneered through my teeth.

"Well, perfect! I can keep following you!" And she then started talking about Juliet again. You know, I wish I lied.

We finally got past Professor Flitwick (who Rain talked to for forever and every time I tried to sneak away, Professor Flitwick stopped me) and arrived at the carriages.

"Oh! Look at these magnificent creatures!" Rain squealed as she ran up to the thestrals.

"You can see them?" I ask as I climb into the carriage.

"Yes, can you?" She comes to join me in the carriage and sits across from me.

"Yes," I replied and we left it off at that. It was a nice quiet moment until she went off again about her old school and her old life. Let's just say it was a long ride and since we were some of the last people to get in a carriage it was just her and me.

At least I won't have to deal with her much longer once she gets sorted.

When we got into the Great Hall I went and sat at the Slytherin table. Rain tried to sit next to me but I stood her up, turned her towards the direction of the head table, and showed her that Professor McGonagall was gesturing that Rain go stand up there for a minute. Then they set up the stool, got the hat, and evidently decided to get Rain sorted then and there.

"Rain Fox you will be the first person to get sorted by the hat today," Professor McGonagall announced. She smiled and sat down on the stool and waited for Filch to come with the hat. Once she had it she smiled at Rain and nodded before carefully putting the hat on her head.

Finally after awkward silence it called out a house! The one house I thought she wouldn't be put in. The one house that was completely unexpected. The one house that I was in.

"SLYTHERIN!" Oh great, Rain is in my house. I thought she was going to be a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw or even Gryffindor seeing how brave she was to stick up to Draco. Which I was doing completely fine handling on my own! I can't have any fun if people like Rain get in the way of my bickering with my enemies. Ugh.

As Rain sat next to me and not-so-patiently waited as the first years got sorted and Dumbledore spoke his famous speech, I thought about how maybe I should make friends this year. I ate some chicken and rice and whatever I could get my hands on. Rain kept putting things on her plate and when I looked again it would be gone. I wasn't sure when she ate her food seeing as she talked ALL THE TIME!

Right at the moment she has been talking about her old headmaster, Agilbert Fontaine.

"My dad was actually specifically asked to be a professor there by Professor Fontaine and he gladly took the job. My dad actually still works there but my mom and I had to move to England. They aren't divorced or anything, my dad will come here over the summers and holidays, but I feel like they'll both be so lonely," she was explaining to me. I couldn't seem to tune her out this time.

I saw people getting up and leaving and I mentally kicked myself. Duh, I could just leave. I finished my pumpkin juice and got up to leave. Sadly, once again, Rain followed. We walked through the halls and I tried to ask her politely to leave me alone and stop talking to me. She didn't. I told her more forcefully, still she kept following me and talking. I started to see why she was in Slytherin.

Actually, no! We're supposed to be cunning Slytherins! She, she's an annoying Hufflepuff. Finally I was in the common room and plopped on the couch.

"And then Parker jumped out my window and fell into a bush! He really was an idiot but, hey, what can you expect from my cousin?" I groaned and put a pillow in my face. Minutes later I heard the door open. I put the pillow down and saw Draco Malfoy walk in.

"Draco! I mean, Malfoy!" I jump off the couch, grabbed his arm, and threw him onto the couch. "Rain, talk to him he is such a great listener! I have to go shower." And after that I ran to my dorm room, shut the door, noticed that there wasn't an extra bed and that I wouldn't be sharing a room with Rain.

Finally, the universe didn't seem to be against me.
