HUMANS / DRAGONS

We settled in a cave on the island, near a lake surrounded by jungle. There are other islands more or less big and according to the maps of 2 thousand years ago the earth would have tilted from its axis and the east would have been the south east.

So we would have left the ancient United States but the cataclysm was so violent that the tectonic plates wobbled, mountains collapsed, plateaus were swallowed up, and islands would have surfaced. But we would be in Cuba in a jungle with a Caribbean climate.

The cave is well arranged and as the stone is soft, it is easy to dig and polish the walls.

We each have a nest and a central nest with a fire pit, braziers and alcoves to put beds for human guests.

A stable to store live prey. And a resting terrace for sunbathing.

The jungle is lush and sometimes ruins emerge and sometimes we see this and that artifact that only I can recognize.

We learned writing and pottery at the native and exchanged some recipes of balms and care products.

We eat a lot of fish and mainly sharks and predators.

We are more revered than the volcano and we receive offerings but they do not dare to offer sacrifices anymore. They understood.

We were right and we got back together slowly and naturally, making sure not to talk about the past, about idols.

We seriously reviewed our anger on dad when we had the version of the prince and the fact that he had not killed the mother of Sanguine nor killed Tantante but it was Sanguinema that he had emptied it by malice. It was more a kind.

And for our hatching, it was terrible.

He told us that they had separated the males from the females as best they could, but they couldn't move us because of the albumen pocket, typical of reptiles, the claws would tear the membrane. The males were cannibals.

We were basically a family again. And we slept together like Russian dolls.

Dad, Sanguine, Me and Ruby.

Everything went well for the next few months.

Ruby and I had a very bad stomach ache one day and Mum explained us that we were becoming fertile and that we were approaching the first egg laying.

But it is strongly advised that young dragons do not give birth at the first spawning as it would damage our skeleton and stop our natural growth. Ideally we should wait a few more years. Then we would have eternity.

The next day, Father looked a little more grumpy.

But it was Mom who explained.

You know, Dad has lived a very long time, but he's still a very young dragon. Full of vigor.

But he has accumulated, despite his madness, a certain wisdom.

There are going to be big problems between us and the humans again. It's inevitable.

We go through the stage of Gods to Lords, then Partners then Buddies then Neighbors then Enemies and finally Targets.

Now we are safe because the leader is young and strong and there is a status quo and no incidents.

Each one at home in good neighborliness.

But an unforeseen event, a famine, or simply a change of religion or a replacement of the chief by another one with 180° ideas, and then we are attacked or blamed for one or the other of their misfortunes.

It is very complicated but a triggering factor is the economic interest for example, the food pressure that we carry on the fauna, our cave, a place of worship? or the lake and access to fresh water or a madness?
