Things were going well. He was doing his best to dance, and she seemed to find his attempts hilarious. Laughing, her hips and arms moved to the beat of the song as she began to relax. He watched her get into the song, her eyes closed and her face contorted adorably into a look if concentration. Her worries seemed to have been left behind.
Smiling, he tried to copy her movements. She wasn't the best dancer, but she was certainly better than him. It was then he noticed she had opened her eyes again and was staring at him with a playful grin on her face. "Copycat!" she giggled, sticking her tongue out. His cheeks turned pink, and she only laughed more.
This went on for a while. How long, he wasn't sure. They had been fine right up until a slow song began playing. It was one of the romantic ones too. He had grabbed her hand and started to put his arm around her waist when she froze. She just stared, wide-eyed. At first he thought she was looking at him, but then he realized it was more like she was looking through him.
Her eyes shifted upwards to look into his. "I'm sorry, David," she whispered, her eyes gleaming with pre-tears wetness, "I- I just can't do this. Not yet. I'm not ready," Her grey-green orbs now gazed at the floor. "I'm just not ready." With that, a she bolted out the door, yanking her hand out of his. He was surprised how alone he felt now, and his shock slowed him down. It was almost a minute later he ran after her.
She hadn't gone far; she's only made it to edge of the front yard before she collapsed, purging the alcohol from her stomach. He sighed. He should have realized she was drunk and not in her right mind. Why else would she ask him to dance. "Hey, Kat?" he said quietly, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Are you o-"
"Don't touch me!" she yelled, her face inches from the grass. "Please," she sobbed, "You'll only make him worse." His ears perked up at that. "Him?" He asked. She shook her head violently. "Just go away!" she shrieked. "I don't ever want to see you again!"
He took a step back, his face twisted in a look of agony because of her stinging words. "Please, Kat. I only want to help," he pleaded. She covered her ears with her hands. "Stop it, stop it, stop it!" she muttered. The she stood up and stumbled across the street.
