"I...the apocalypse is coming." I sigh and he raises a brow, laughing in disbelief. His laughing annoys me because it sounds condescending. I clench my jaw as I look out the window."Liar." he snaps, and I remind myself that he is just hurt and angry right now; that all of this sounds insane.
"You really think I would be joking about this...right now of all times?" I retort and he leans back in his seat, arms folded; willing to listen to what I have to say. "This so-called apocalypse. When's it gonna happen?" He questions, but from his tone. I can tell he still thinks it's a joke.
"I can't give you the exact hour, but from what I can gather, we have about four days left." I sigh and his eyes slightly widen.
"Why didn't you say something sooner?" He scolds and I look down.
"It wouldn't have mattered."
"Of course it would have. We could have gotten the academy together and stopped it."
"For the record, you already tried." I sigh and his face twists in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I found you." I shudder. "Your bodies...dead," I say, and images of their bodies flash back into my head. Them laying face down, defeated, the helplessness I felt.
"We die?"
"Horribly. You were together trying to stop whoever it was that ends the world."
"Wait, how do you know?"
"A prosthetic eye was clutched in Luther's hand when I found all of you. Five has it...Luther must've ripped it out of their head right before he went down."
"Well, it must lead some-"
"Dead end."
"Oh... this still doesn't explain anything about what happened back there. Who are those people Y/n?"
"I'm telling you everything...anyways. They work for my former employer. A woman called The Handler. She sent them to stop Five and I. Then, soon as your Detective Patch got in the way. Well, fair game."
"And now they're my fair game. And I'm gonna see to it that they pay." He comments angrily. I know he wants revenge, I would too, but that is a reckless move.
"Diego that would be a mistake. They've killed people far more dangerous than you." I say softly, gathering all my patience.
"Yeah, we'll just see about that." He shoots back.
"Diego, I'm not trying to insult you. I'm trying to preserve your existence. You can't just go waltzing in there like you own the place. You have to think. Use that brain of yours. So are you going to listen or not?"
" Fine."
"Okay...well in exchange for five years of my service. They would let me go back to retire in any place or time that I wanted. So I agreed and they turned me into the perfect instrument for the rehabilitation of the time continuum."
"The time..wha...wha...wha?"
"Just listen."
"Sorry."
"It's fine. The time continuum, or corrections, as they called them. I wasn't the only one. Take Five for example. There are others like me. Beings out of time, fractured, extracted from the lives that they knew. I don't know how they got there. None of them were as good as me. Or Five since they're after him too." I take a deep breath. "So I broke my contract because I couldn't wait that long and I knew that she wouldn't do anything about the apocalypse. She said it was supposed to happen, but I believe there is another way which is what Five and I have been trying to achieve.
