Blaze

John 4

I walked Violet up to her door not knowing why she looked so nervous. I looked up and saw her brother in the doorway giving me a death stare.  I dropped my arm that was wrapped around her shoulders and stepped back as soon as I saw his hands clenched. " Well Violet," he said with a snare in his voice " While you were gone I helped mom. So what did you and that boy do while I helped the family".  She started to cry again as her brother hugged her and explained what had happened from my perspective. For every word, I said her brother became less and less tense.
" Well thank you for taking care of her".  I had little noticed that it had gotten dark out and Violet had fallen asleep in her brother's arms. " Well maybe you should stay. For Violet at least.  Make me one promise before I trust you" he waited one more second then said " be there for her when things happen and I will trust you" I nodded and he said, " I'm Jacob, come in".  Jacob picked up Violet bridal style and opened the door.   " We have a long talk ahead," Jacob started. I froze.  Did he know, did he think I liked Violet.  " Listen before you say anything, I am just here for Violet.  Be good to her and don't turn away when things get hard."  I was confused at what Jacob had just said.  Was something else going to happen or maybe her dad was coming back? I left shortly after that when Violet's mom wanted to know why Violet was sleeping and tear-stained.  That night I still couldn't understand what Jacob said.  I would grant his wish though, I would help Violet with whatever came next.
