As we boarded the train, I glanced back at my mother trying her best to hide back in the shadows of Platform 9 3/4. Even with her black hat covering her eyes and and her body shielded by the thick leather jacket, she always caught the eye of onlookers. Katie and Angelina walked ahead of me, presumably chatting amicably about the upcoming quidditch season.

"Hey Cece, how would your mum fancy a bit of Blaise " Blaise Zabini made a rather rude gesture as we passed by a Slytherin compartment.

"Piss off Blaise." Katie Bell shoved Blaze away, wisely pulling me further down the train before I could ferociously rip his head off.

"That's absolutely disgusting." I muttered, slumping down on a seat in the compartment. Fred and George didn't even bother looking up from their game of exploding snap.

"OH that reminds me." I pulled out the two flesh-eating textbooks from my trunk. "You owe me a new bag – this retched book of yours ate right through my new Celine bag. "

"Oh thank merlin!" Fred grabbed the books.

"How'd you get it?"

"Bumped into Charlie at Diagon Alley, apparently you left them there."

The boys shrugged, admiring the stupid textbooks with adoration. They turned back to their game, giving me an opportunity to find a comfortable spot on Fred's shoulder. I had barely slept the night before. It was an ongoing issue. My mother says it was anxiety but i think it's because I think too much, my brain never stopped running (or scheming more like it).

**************

I was rudely awakened by a rough shove in my ribs.

"What's going on?" I mumbled, Fred shook me awake. I realised I was curled up, knees to my chest; suddenly freezing.

"I don't know." For once in their lives, Fred and George Weasley were speechless. Their pale skin looked blanched against their fiery red hair which flopped over their eyes. Angelina gripped Katie's hand reassuredly who quivered in the corner of the compartment.

I shivered, my breath compensated as I exhaled. Angelina shuffled closer to us as George peered his head out of the compartment window. There was a tension which was so uncharacteristic on the twin's comedic faces. I grabbed Katie's other shaking hand.

"The train has stopped." George stated the obvious. He stood up slowly, his voice cracked through the silence. There was a faint murmur carrying through the train as students began sticking their head out of the compartments into the corridor.

I took a shallow breath in the cold air, wrapping my sweater over myself. The carriage was quiet. Katie gasped grabbing my arm as a faint whistling sound grew closer. The windows fogged. My hands tingled. Angelina sat beside as, her usually composed dark brown eyes grew wide, fixed on something so terrifying outside that she began to visibly shake. I followed her eyeline to see none other than a black hooded figure which swept silently through the train.

"What is that?" I breathed. It wasn't human, was it? It's body almost floated. Nobody replied, all drawn in a trance to the dark creature which crept forward. It's hands moved slowly across each compartment window.

We sat in silence, all too afraid to move. It felt like hours but in reality it was only minutes.

Then, without warning. The train began to move.

"Merlin's pelvic floor." Fred finally shivered, letting the cold out of his body. We nodded in agreement, sitting in silence for the rest of the train ride.

***********************************

The coldness hadn't disappeared since the encounter on the train and it seemed the same wave of heaviness had fallen over the entire Great Hall. Fred and George hadn't cracked a joke in all of 20 minutes. Everybody was slumped in a pile of glumness... all except for a short, brown haired bundle of excitement rushing towards us. "CECEEEE." Katie came flying down the Great Hall. She almost slipped as she doubled over out of breath. Fred and George looked visibly frightened.
