"Why, if it isn't Rachel Mirkson... Now, what would you be doing walking alone on this starry night?" An almost sing-song voice came from behind Rachel. She came to an abrupt stop and stood, absolutely frozen in shock and fear. She knew that voice from somewhere, and only her frightened state was the only thing preventing her from turning around out of curiosity.
Right then she remembered where she had heard his voice. It was a student from her college. Thomson Mallen, A real troublemaker. The one who would skip class to go smoke or drink with his friends. At least that was three years ago. She hadn't seen him since and all she had heard of him were rumors about basically loosing his mind after a freak accident while he was driving home from a party. She heard he was under the influence and bombarded right into another car, killing the daughter of the family that was driving.
After that people barely saw him, and rumor went around that he was a lunatic and had lost any sense of mind he ever had. She also heard he turned to drugs. Still, these were only rumors, and she of all people knew that the rumors she heard were only just created as a form of entertainment.
Rachel must've been so deep in thought that she didn't hear his footsteps slowly approaching. She abruptly turned around at the sudden noise to see Thomson close behind her. He had bags under his eyes, a slight smile, and hands in his pockets. He was wearing a casual band t-shirt with jeans and no coat considering how cold is was out. His hair was unkept and the colour of fresh dirt.
Rachel was still standing frozen in place, a cold sweat now collecting on her forehead. She could feel her palms getting sweaty and heart starting to race in this awkward atmosphere; anticipating wether or not he was going to break the silence that hung from the air like fog. A knot was slowly growing in her stomach and she wondered if the feeling was simply hunger or the instinct to act.
