After Itachi said those words , the atmosphere became insanely awkward , and they both turned their attention towards their food.
" I have to head to the café in two hours. And you have to go to work too. So I guess this is where we say goodbye ," the reaper spoke , giving him a small smile. " Anyways , thanks for the meal."
Itachi nodded . " Anytime. "
Seconds after Itachi drove away , the reaper slipped on her black hat , but she didn't teleport away.
Instead , she watched as the car grew further and further from her , but the warmth in her heart still remained where it should be.
The sun was barely peeking up , and the gentle light was illuminated on her usually solemn face . On that particular day , the sunrise was beautiful. The way the orange streaks decorated the azure sky , dotted with lavender clouds.
' It's the perfect time for a walk ,'she thought.
And so , she began to walk on the pavement , observing the humans around her.
There was a girl , in a elementary school uniform . On her left , she could see a middle aged man , wearing a suit , so she assumed he must be working in an office.
On the right side , she could hear the sound of a modern song blasting through the headphones of a highschool boy.For once , she wished she had somewhere to go. Something to achieve.
But no.
Until her sentence had ended , she would spend the rest of eternity collecting souls , and probably waste away.
Staring at the road in front of her , she let out a sigh. She could walk for miles , but there was no specific destination she could head to.
Clearing her throat , she tried to remember the words of a poem she read long ago. It was written by a sinner when she was alive , and after death , she became a reaper. Mortals feared the poem , finding the meaning too haunting , and the story too tragic to digest. Chief Park read it in one of the old records at the Headquarters , and the words had been engraved in her mind ever since.
