_____________

Aesop wasn't one to notice things about the people around them, no, he'd much rather pretend they aren't there. Pretend there was no one there, it was easier on him. He hated staring, whether it be people staring at him, or being caught staring. Especially with the people at the manor, god was he scared of those people. While most minded their own business, there were others, like Naib, who strived to torment other people when in a horrible mood. Of course, maybe not everyone was bad.

There was one person, always on his mind. He would consider them a friend. They protected him from others in the manor, namely Naib. He found them so intriguing because, despite the fact that they couldn't speak, they were so tough and brave. They plagued his thoughts constantly, he couldn't help but worry for his close friend.

It was almost ironic, their friend also wore a mask over their mouth. Their [h/l] [h/c] looked so soft to the touch, he caught himself multiple times almost reaching for it. Their [e/c] eyes never failed to make him nervous, but it was almost nice when they looked at him. Their eyes would soften and he could always tell when they smiled by the way their eyes crease. Despite not being able to talk, he noticed that they could somewhat laugh, be it mostly a rasp of air, it was still laughter.

He loved making them laugh. He didn't like talking much either, but with them, it was like he couldn't resist it. With a few words, he would watch as their eyes lit up, and their shoulders would shake, their rasp of a laugh escaping them. He loved it so much, it warmed his heart and his face. Their main form of communication being pen and paper, but they would also teach him sign language.

It hurt him terribly when Naib and them would get into fights. He would yell straight in their face but they wouldn't back down. Both of their eyes stayed locked, scowls on both of their faces, if looks could kill they would have both been goners. Worst of all is when Naib would taunt them, knowing full well they couldn't speak up. That of course didn't stop them from shutting him up other ways. Like the time the manor had been so lively because [Y/n] had pranked Naib and humiliated him in front of others. This only happened because Naib had picked on Aesop earlier that day.

Aesop honestly couldn't wrap his head around why someone like [Y/n] would stand up for him. He also couldn't understand why every time they were around, his heart would beat faster, and he couldn't sit still. His face would warm up when he noticed that they were looking at him, or smiling. Their laughter would set his heart aflame with a feeling he never got used to no matter how much time they spent together.

----

It was an unusually quiet day. Aesop timidly tried to make his way to his room, he just left Emily's room after he failed his last match. He received minor injuries, but he was terrified. He needed to get somewhere safe before-

"And where the fuck do you think you're going?"

Aesop jumped, his eyes going from the floor to a very clearly pissed Naib in front of him. His brows were furrowed and he was scowling at him. Aesop gulped nervously, glancing around, hoping someone would be nearby to stop this. He messed up bad during the match, he knew this. He just wished Naib wouldn't care so much.
