Valentine's Day, the day of lovers.
Another day he got his hopes up, wishing for his first-ever letter.

It was also a busy day for him as he had many letters to deliver. He often wondered how it felt to receive a letter from your lover.

He felt as if he was dreaming too big to ever receive a letter, much less from someone who could harbor feelings for him.

He made his way down the streets, his only friend not far behind. His eyes would catch glances inside the homes, lovers holding each other in an embrace.

Although he knew this was also the time of heartbreak. He would observe as he handed a few women the letters from their husbands or fiances. Some would be ecstatic reading the letter, others would break down in tears.

The closer he got to the end of the pile, the more relief he felt. He enjoyed his job, sure, but the stress of seeing such people in distress ruined it sometimes. There was another reason he was so happy to reach the end.

It was so he could see the girl who had captured his heart. Unlike the others, she was kind to him, caring even. She would invite him to keep her company as she was often alone due to her parents working.

He could never find it in his heart to reject her, and he grew fond of her. She showed the same kindness to his only companion and that only made his feelings grow.

Her family daily sent letters to her, so he usually always had some reason to see her. At the end of the pile, he expected to see the usual envelope addressed by her parents.

What he wasn't expecting, was a love letter being sent to her.

He could tell the difference between all types of letters without even having to open them.

His mood only became more gloomy at the thought of her loving someone else. He had to remind himself that to everyone else, he was nothing. Even if she made him feel like he was someone for once, she was probably only pitying him.

He felt foolish now for thinking he would ever get to love someone. Surely, whoever sent this letter would be able to give her everything she could ever need. That's something he could never do.

The walk to her comfy home felt like forever. He wished he could just not hand it to her, but then he would regret giving her an opportunity at finding the love of her life.

Once he made it to her doorstep he paused, looking down at his companion. A frown tugged at his lips but he forced a smile and knocked at the door. He felt disheartened every second he waited for the door to open.

Soon it did, a dazzling pair of [e/c] orbs appeared, seeming to light up as they recognized him. Her angelic voice reached his ears as a large smile presented itself on her face. She opened the door and stepped to the side, inviting him in. He walked in, taking in the familiar and comfy home.

"Victor! I'm glad you're here."

For a second he could've sworn that her cheeks were slightly rosier than usual, he brushed off the thought

"I guess I received a letter then?"

He nodded his head, his hands slightly shaking as he handed the letter to her. She gently led him to the living room and took a seat next to him. She struggled to open the letter, ultimately leading to her ripping the top and pulling out the letter. Her eyes scanned the paper and she kept a blank face.

Victor only grew more heartbroken as he noticed the small smile on her face. He pets his canine companion who was currently on his lap, wishing for nothing more than to get the day over with.

She placed the letter on the small table in front of the couch they were seated on.

"Sadly, I cannot accept his feelings."

This seemed to shock Victor as he gently poked her arm, a puzzled look on his face. Yet, he felt relief that she wasn't going to at the same time. She understood his motions, a gentle smile on her face as she looked him in the eyes.

"Because Victor... I can't say right now... b-but- here."

she handed him an envelope, and he carefully took it into his hands. His head tilted in confusion, wondering who this could be for. He flipped the envelope to the other side, his eyes widened as he saw his name in beautiful handwriting.

"𝐹𝑜𝓇 𝒱𝒾𝒸𝓉𝑜𝓇"

His heart skipped a beat and he felt his emotions crash into one. He finally received his first letter! And from the girl he loved. His heart felt like it would burst and he hadn't even begun reading. He gently opened the envelope, reading what she had written. The more he read, the more he had fallen for her. Every sentence filled with emotions and lead him down a wonderous path filled with joy and love. She often complimented him in her writing, and with every compliment, his face would flush a bright red.

The last sentence of the letter however completely took his breath away

"𝐼 𝓁𝑜𝓋𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊, 𝒱𝒾𝒸𝓉𝑜𝓇, 𝓌𝒾𝓁𝓁 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒷𝑒 𝓂𝒾𝓃𝑒?"

He looked up from the letter, eyes filled with joy and longing. The girl who had been patiently waiting nervously fiddled with her fingers.

"w-well-"

She didn't get the chance to speak anymore before she was pulled into a tight embrace, feeling Victor nod his head into her shoulder. Both of them feeling strong emotions, mainly joy and love at that very moment.

They held each other for the night, refusing to let go of their special day that they will now spend looking forward to.

Her words soothed him as she explained that he didn't need to always provide for her as she was happy with him anyway.

"𝓦𝓸𝓻𝓭𝓼 𝓲𝓷 𝓪 𝓵𝓮𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓬𝓪𝓷𝓷𝓸𝓽 𝓮𝔁𝓹𝓻𝓮𝓼𝓼 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓵𝓸𝓿𝓮 𝓘 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝔂𝓸𝓾"
