I wish I never joined the military. They said "It would end by Christmas" and yet now it's September of the next year. I should have deserted like the rest of my buddies.  But I guess I can't now. Since, even if a part of my head pokes out a German will snipe me. I'll just try to get some sleep, we got orders to charge their entrenchments tomorrow.

.

Shinobu Kocho.

I woke up to the sound of gun fire. I woke up to see a dead body right next to me, quite normal but I was freaked out since I just woke up.

(Women weren't allowed to fight in WW1. But let's pretend they were for plot.)

"Emilia (Shinobu)! The French have started to try and take our entrenchment!" I hear.

I stood up and grabbed my Gewehr 98. I aimed and fired at a French troop, I missed my first shot, I bolted the rifle back and tried again. This time at a different French troop. Hit. He's probably dead so I bolt the rifle back and aim at another troop. Another hit.

I woke up pretty early, but the advance already started. And so, I joined. I climbed out and grabbed my Lebel rifle. But before I could even start running, a bullet pierces through the air nearly hitting my hip. I run to take cover in a different trench, once I reach to said trench, I grab the gas mask from my bag and wear it over my face. The Corps General told us that the British were going to try gas attacks on the Germans. After that, I readied myself for another run to the other trench. I ran to the other trench and jumped down, to see a wounded friendly troop. He was bleeding out, and he had probably already lost more than 2 liters of blood. It was a miracle that he was still conscious.

"P-Please j-just end it. My pride is shattered but please. I don't wanna feel this amount of pain anymore." He sputtered.

I hesitated for a second, but realized that he had no chance of surviving, even if I tried to treat him right now. I ran out of blood bags a few days ago and have no bandages on me.

"Please forgive me for this." I say as I pull out my knife from its guard.

"T-Thank you." he thanks me for agreeing and closes his eyes.

I ready the knife against his neck, right before I deliver the coup de grâce. I pull the knife back out and put in its guard before continuing my trial to German trench. I reached the next trench before being greeted by a friendly British troop.

"Ah, hello there." He says while being rested on the wall.

"Hello. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, just a little bit exhausted from all the running."

"Alright." I was about to climb up to continue before he stopped me.

"Aren't you tired mate?" He asks.

"No, not really."

"I see, you're pretty physically fit. But you should probably rest. There are no trenches after this one, the German trench is the next one. But they're pretty fortified, let's just wait for more of our men to arrive."

"Oh, I see. Alright then." I say as I sit down and rest my back on the dirt wall.

As I was resting, I started to fall asleep. A German troop jumped into our trench.

"Shi-" The British troop next to me got shot in the head, instantly killing him.

I reacted quickly, grabbing my knife and charged at the troop. I pin the German troop down and I get ready to stab him but then I saw the face behind the gas mask.  Purple eyes. That beautiful face, it didn't deserve to be in war, it wasn't a "him", it was a "her". But while I was distracted the woman kicked me off of her and grabbed her Mauser while I was on the ground. She pointed it at me, and I knew that in this war. No enemy spares another. I close my eyes, before hearing something collapsing on the floor.

I open my eyes to see the woman on the ground. And at that moment, I felt something click in me. I rush to the woman and place her head on my lap. Her gas mask wasn't secured and she inhaled too much chlorine gas it seems. I fixed her gasmask and carried her to a more sheltered part of the trench. I checked her pulse, and she thankfully still had a heartbeat.

Why was I taking care of an enemy?

I couldn't answer that question myself, but I didn't care. It felt as if she was someone I needed to protect.

A few minutes before this happened...

I knew some French guy and another British guy were in the trench nearest to us, they were waiting for more backup to arrive. I decided that I needed to eliminate them now.

"Hey! Emilia (Shinobu)! What are you doing?!" A fellow troop asked.

"Gonna take care of those troops." I say as I charge.

I run as fast as possible, and when I reached there I jumped in and immediately shot the troop that was on my left. I aim at the other one. But he was already charging at me with a knife.

My lightweight body easily got pinned to the ground and now my life was at the hands of this random French troop.

He raised his knife and was about to stab me but he stopped, for some odd reason. I took this chance and kicked him off of me. I grab my Mauser that I dropped and aim it at him. He got on his knees, and didn't fight back. He closed his eyes, and I'm a bit confused, but it seems like he already had enough of this god for-

My vision' blurring... shit. My mask isn-

My train of thought was broken and everything went black.

A/N: Hello! For once I'm not lazy and so I decided to actually finish the first chapter on the same day I announced it on my other story. (Go check it out, name is "Fading Memories (GiyuShino)" And so I feel, proud I guess? I already had ideas for it so that contributed. Anyways, feel free to put criticism in the comments, or if I got anything wrong about weapons or other stuff.
