JAMES
James got out of the car. They had reached their spot two hours back, but had remained in the car monitoring their surroundings.
Finally….he thought as he clambered out of the car and brushed the creases off his jeans.
It was time to complete their job. They had been instructed to give Nora time to do her job. The information she was trying to get was important. But they had to be on the spot none the less to take hold of the situation should Nora get named and the inhabitants try to make a run for it before they arrived.
The result of it? ... They had ended up staring up at the house for the last two hours. It had been so boring that for some seconds James had actually wished for them to get compromised and had wanted the inhabitants to come rushing out. At least it would have provided him some action. That had to be way better than baby-sitting the compound wall of the house, waiting for any activity.
He looked around as the others filed out of the car behind him and stretched their legs in relief. At last they could enter... Nora had been given enough time. She had to have the information by now. Even if she didn’t, they couldn’t wait any more.
The house that stood proudly before them was a two-storied one. The lone house was surrounded by a bricked compound wall with elaborately carved metal doors at its entrance that lead to the house. The door was shut tight and remained that way most of the time according to their information. Though the wall was quite high, it was still spiked with jagged pieces of glasses pointing upwards as an extra security to prevent the walls from being breached. They knew that security cameras were well concealed to monitor movement outside the walls. James had to admit that they were good…at least the spy-cams were well installed. They knew for a fact that around half a dozen cams were installed around the entrance and in spite of all his training and skills, he could only notice half of them.
But if all went as planned, they wouldn’t be bothered by the innumerable defenses of the house giving it the illusion of being heavily secured. The defenses had already been breached by them, though its occupant didn’t know it. Buy out a person who worked on the inside and everything could be accomplished quite easily.
They reached a small door on the far corner of the front wall. It was a side door installed to facilitate easy movement of guards and servants. The door was metal and was painted the same cement color as the wall around it but it still stood out distinctly. It was a plain metal door and was locked from the inside.
If their source was correct, then a person had to waiting on the other side for them. As if by instinct, all of them pulled out their guns and attached silencers to it. James leaned sideways next to the door; his back pressing against the wall, his fingers on the trigger. He nodded once to Joseph who moved forward to stand in front of the door.
He knocked once. A pause. Knocked twice. A pause. Thrice. And a pause.
They waited; tensed. What if they had been double-crossed? It was common. After all, they were making the person double cross in the first place. Such people were least reliable. They had no loyalty and tilted easily to the side that offered more money.
Generally, they had back up plans ready in such cases. But tonight it was not possible. The security system was too through. They couldn’t plant one of their own men inside as it took weeks and their target was unpredictable; shifting places rapidly. So if it back fired now, it would effectively mean the end of the mission.
After the longest half minute of the night, they heard the click of the door being unlocked on the other side. All of them readied their gun. The door opened slowly, inch by inch, to avoid the slightest sound of the hinges moving. A face peered out at them. Joseph lowered his gun and was the first in, followed by Louis. The girls followed. He was the last one in.
