The sound of voices float around me, but I am unable to make out the words or the person speaking them. I try to focus past the pounding in my head to hear what was being said.
"So, you think that's why she passed out?" I heard Lou ask softly.
She passed out? Me? Oh no! I was hoping that was part of a dream, how could I have stupidly fainted, in front of the whole neighbourhood!
"Why else?" A deep voice growled.
The sound made me jump slightly, hissing as it caused a shooting pain run through the back of my head. My hands shot up cradling my skull in hope to dull the pain.
"Anna? Are you okay? What's wrong? Anna?" Lou fussed, leaning over me looking frazzled, worry creeping into her eyes with each question asked.
"Hi," I lamely mumbled, looking in her direction with a light smile pulling at my lips, causing her to snort softly.
"Hey, honey, how are you feeling?" Jenny added, stepping closer to the couch I'm currently laying on.
"Like I've been hit over the head with a baseball bat, to be honest." I chuckled, making her face drop before she turned and ran into the kitchen, saying something about painkillers or water.
"So, what the hell happened to you drama queen?" Teased Lou, light worry still present her eyes as she analysing me for any other troubles. "Obviously you didn't think you had enough eyes on you, so you go and play dying unicorn!"
Unable to hold back my full blown laughter as I feel the heat tingling my cheeks. "As much as I'd love to blame it on my unicorn ability, I'm going to say no." We share yet another smile when I realize how bizarre everyone is staring at us. "I'm just a bit tired, I was driving all day and into last night."
"Oh.. I thought maybe.." She started, but stopped as a look of shock crossed her face and she glances over to her right. I followed her gaze to find Mason leaning against the kitchen bench, arms crossed over his chest, looking quite agitated as he glared at Lou. But when he realized that I was looking at him, his eyes narrowed at me and jaw clenched unhealthily.
I snapped my eyes away from the man burning holes into my head, trying to hide the heat creeping onto my cheeks yet again. Fiddling with my hands, trying to work out why he's so mad, when his face looked so soft and caring just before he caught me, what could I have done since then?
"Anna!" Jenny called, squeezing my shoulder, pulling me from my deep thought.
"Oh, Ah.. Sorry, Jenny, I'm just a little tired.." I reasoned.
"Of course, have these and I'll get Lou to walk you back home, make sure you get into the house safely." She assured.
"I don't think it's safe for her to be by herself." Even grumbling, that boys voice is soothing, causing a knotting feeling in my stomach that is beginning to irritate me.
I look towards Mason, he was looking at Jenny with an unreadable expression on his face, and his eyes alight with questions. His gaze snapped to mine, when he noticed me staring again, his eyes narrowed and jaw clenched even harder.
"I'm fine. I have been looking after myself for quite some time now." I monotone, having enough of his stupid, childish behaviour.
For a split second his features softened, before hardening once again, his signature scowl reforming on his face. "Whatever." He snapped, before turning around and storming toward the door.
"Grouch." I mumbled under my breath.
Judging by the way he slammed the front door, I may have been a little louder than I intended.
