                                                          Chapter Four

My mom dropped all her stuff as she stood there with her mouth hanging open in mid scream. I didnt known whether to run to her or away from her, so we both just stood there staring at each other. When she was finally able to close her mouth she spoke. It was the first time I could ever remember her talking to me in a caring voice. She asked me what happened. Of course I started crying again. Then she came over to me, got down on her knees and tried to hug me. She stopped because I cried out in pain.

With out saying a word she lifted up my shirt. When she saw I was covered in one giant bruise she swept me up into her arms and took me to the hospital. All the way there she never said a word, but she softly cried. I was in complete shock. My mom was actually crying for me. That meant she cared about me. All this time I didn't think anyone cared. But now I knew she did.

I couldn't believe it when it happened, because it didn't sound like my own voice, but I could hear it saying "daddy did it". When we got to the hospital my mom carried me into the emergency entrance and they took me back to this room. Mom asked them to call the police and have them here to see how I looked.

The doctors and nurses made me take off all my clothes but my underwear and took pictures of my bruises. They took me to another room and had me lay on this cold table so they could take pictures of my bones.  They took pictures of me from head to toe. By the time I got back to the room my mom was in the police were there too.
My mom was telling them how she found me when she came home from work. She told them how I told her my dad did this to me. Then the doctors brought in the pictures of my bones to show my mom and the police.
My dad had dislocated my jaw and broke two ribs. He bruised my liver, my kidney, and ruptured my spleen. So they explained to me that they had to make me go into a deep sleep and take out my spleen. That meant I would be in the hospital for a long time. My mom asked the police to find my dad and lock him up. That was fine by me.

The doctors told me and my mom that they will also have to wire my jaw shut so it would go back into place and heal. This meant I would have all kinds of needles and tubes and wires running into my body so they could pump food into me because I would not be able to eat on my own for a while. I was so scared, but my mom promised me she wouldn't leave me and it would all be OK. She was crying again. I couldn't believe she really cares about me.

The police and my mom talked for a long time. They had to take pictures of me too. Then they asked me to tell them word for word what exactly happened. That scared me because that meant I had to tell them and my mom that dad had been coming over every night for a couple of months. It also meant they would know I had been taking care of myself for the last three almost four years. Mom would be in trouble too. But I told them everything.

As I was telling them they kept looking back and forth between me and my mom. The whole time I kept looking at my mom and she just looked at the floor. They asked me so many questions and had me talking for what felt like days, but I knew it was only a few hours. Once they finished taking all their pictures and asking all their questions they asked my mom to step outside. I don't know how long they kept her out in the hallway because they gave me some medicine to help me with my pain and I fell asleep.

When I woke up it was daytime. There was a nurse standing in the room changing one of the bags of liquid they had me hooked up to. She said it was nice to see me finally awake. She told me that I had slept for an entire day and it was the second day of my being there. Soon the doctors came in and told me that they would be taking me to another room where they would be operating on me to take out my spleen and wire my jaw.
I didn't see my mom anywhere. I guess that meant the police took her away too. What did that mean for me?
The nurse came in and took me to the other room. It had so many machines in it and looked really scary. She told me I had nothing to worry about and to just relax. Then this man put a rubber mask over my nose and mouth and told me to count backwards from ten. As I started counting my eyes got really heavy and I saw everything just fade out to nothing.
