Chapter 3
Curiosity killed the Alex…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jack opened the door of AP English and led me inside. A lot of students were already seated and it seemed like the teacher was focusing on writing something on the board.
She turned to both of us and frowned.
“You’re extremely late Lankston. I expect you have a good excuse?” she asks with a raise of her eyebrow.
“Um, excuse me Miss? I think I can explain. I’m new here, and the receptionist at the office asked him to show me around.”
The teacher turns to an opened book on her desk and peruses through it, obviously searching for something.
“Ah yes, you’re Miss Alexandria Clark, right?”
“Yeah. And you can just call me Alex,” I say with a small smile.
She nods and motions for both me and Jack to take a seat.
“Well, one thing I want to make clear in my classroom Miss. Clark: I do not tolerate lateness. Got it?”
I nod, a little intimidated by her brash ways.
“I’m Mrs. Jackson. You either like me, or you don’t like me. I think most of my class can vouche for me though,” she says with a smirk.
“Anyways, as I was saying,”

English class felt as if it dragged on for hours before the bell to go to the next class rung. I breathed a sigh of relief.
As I was walking out of the classroom, someone pushed by me and nearly knocked me over. I whipped my head behind me and noticed it was the same girl that pushed me before.
“Excuse me? Do you have a habit of pushing people?” I ask in the most polite voice I could muster.
She scoffed.
“Pssh…why should I care about a low life like you?” she asks with a flick of her curly brunette hair.
And with that, she just sauntered off, as if nothing happened.
I rolled my eyes, “Well Alex, you should’ve expected something like this.”
I continue on my way at a pretty steady pace but slow down when I notice a large door at the end of an empty corridor. I look around me and see that no one’s really watching so…why not?
I walk a small bit before I stop myself.
“Woah woah woah woah…hold up Alex. You’ve been here less than a day and you already want to snoop?” I scolded myself, shaking my head and walking back the way I came.
“Alex…”
I stop dead in my tracks. A chill goes up my spine.
“H-Hello?”
No answer. Maybe that’s a good thing.
I decide to hurry off to my next class before anything weird happens again.
“This is one strange day,” I say to myself, nearly crashing headfirst into a hunched over figure playing on their phone.
I get to my locker, grab my books, and decide to totally forget about the door and the hallway and especially the voice.
