I sat in the Art room during my free hour. Gerard sat by the open window, a Starbucks coffee in his hands. I sat beside him, he glanced at me with a raised eyebrow.
"Your face is pretty bruised." Gerard said. I stared out the window. I didn't even want to know what my face looked like.
"I figured." I said quietly. Gerard touched my shoulder in a somewhat reassuring manner. I looked up a him with a small smile, he returned I greatly. "I really hope you weren't serious about what you said between student and teacher relationships." I said nervously.
"Of course I wasn't serious, Frankie." Gerard said. "I just have to be careful, ya know?" He asked. I nodded and we both looked out the open window.
The door on the other side of the room. Gerard and I both looked back, Toby Ballato stood in the doorway. Hr let the door close behind him, his is feral.
"Yes, Toby? What do you need?" Gerard asked, he turned and stood up.
"Ah, Mr. Way. I figured you'd be here with Iero." Toby said, his tone was putting me on edge. I saw someone on the other side of the doorway through the little window. It was an office aid and the principal.
"Gee, we're being watched." I whispered almost silently. Gerard nodded slightly.
"What are you hinting at Toby?" Gerard asked with a raised eyebrow.
"What I'm hinting at is that you and Iero have a little thing going on between you two." Toby accused.
"Really? Jeez Toby, its your first day in Belleville and you're already targeted someone. You know you attacked Frank earlier, broke his nose too." Gerard countered smoothly. Toby's expression became shrouded with fear. The door swung open and it was the principle.
"Mr. Way, I apologize for his accusing." The principle said. He grabbed Toby's arm. "Come with me, Ballato." The man said and took toby out of the room, the door slamming behind them.
Gerard looked at me with a nervous expression and exhaled in relief. I shared the same look. He came back and sat down beside me. I snatched his coffee and took a sip. I handed it back and he smirked.
"Toby is definitely out to get you, Frank." Gerard said. I nodded and stared out the window.
"Can I come over tonight? My dad is having a drinking night tonight." I asked him.
"Of course you can, Frankie whenever you need to, my house is open." Gerard whispered. The bell rang. "I'll leave the door unlocked for you." Gerard said, he out his fingers lightly on my cheek and kissed my temple. "See you later." Gerard said. I smiled a him and left his classroom. I found Mikey by my locker. He said hi and we chatted for a bit and then he left with Gerard.
