Donelle walked through the Japanese evergreen forest. She felt it getting denser and denser with each step. Conn's feet dragged on the ground as she carried his unconscious body on her back like a cape. The sound of snarling and a morbid scream and finally silence was behind her. She closed her eyes to fight off the tears and kept going.
"Source. You are the Source. Please come to me. I'm scared,"
The voice kept ringing through her ears and piercing her skull. It felt worse than the last time she had heard it, but she was surviving off of the pure motivation to not let her friend die. She wasn't in love with him prior to what her comrades think. Prior to what he may think. But she wasn't going to let the man who stayed with her in her darkest hours die. He never let her die that day in the forest.
As she continued running, Conn coughed up blood on her cheek and over her shoulder.
"We're almost back, Murphy. Stay with me," She worriedly told him while running. She had already lost a loved one today to that monster. She wasn't going to do it again.
"It's... It's a little hard when the ride is this bumpy," he retorted while sounding like he's on the verge of death.
"Well allow me to summon a car for the young master to comfortably be saved from certain death," She responded sarcastically. He chuckled softly despite it causing pain in his chest.
"I love you, Don,"
"I know, Agent Murphy"
"Leave me behind. I won't hate you for it,"
"I know,"
"Then why? Be smart about it,"
"I won't let you be a hero twice, Murphy,"
She kept running at a pace that her pain and fatigue allowed her, still being slightly faster than average, due to her GodSlayer pants. But stopped dead in her tracks when she noticed she was surrounded.
"What is it?" Conn asked worryingly.
"We aren't alone,"
Whatever was surrounding them was huge, and she felt it.
"How do you know?"
A sound like a snake's hiss surrounded them at all sides. And the sound of a woman's singing graced the two soldier's ears. The trees rattled as a harsh wind hit it, but neither of them felt this wind. The dark and gloomy atmosphere of the forest had changed completely. The sun was peeking in through the trees more and more as the copper smell of blood and rot was replaced with the smell of fresh earth after a rainfall. Birds landed on the trees around here that once carried invisible eyes. Flowers started to bloom around the two, as butterflies and bees surrounded the two, feeding off of the nectar-filled flowers. The pain of the God's harsh words slowly slipped from her body, which was a first since the start of this mission.
This is....beautiful... Donelle thought to herself. She felt a rising warmth in her heart. The voice was beckoning at her. It felt romantic.
"Don...What are you-" Donelle dropped Conn off of her back, and also dropped to her knees. A hypnotized look in her eye.
Conn's confusion soon turned
"Don! Snap out of it! Go!"
The hissing got closer and closer. Don couldn't move. The pleasure of the trance was too much. All she could do was succumb. Behind her. That was the source. She needed to go to it. She needed to show her appreciation. But she didn't need to. And it was approaching her. She turned around and saw the most beautiful woman in her life. The woman reached out to her.
