10:46 p.m.pacing quietly helped me calm myself and be the voice of reason if need be, dustin had raided the cafeteria to find something to snack on and to distract everyone, while mike went out to greet nancy and jonathan whose car headlights we saw pulling in.
instead mike rushed in distress without neither of them in tow, he warned of a group of government officials pulling in instead, which made everyone look around for a way out.
we all ran out of the cafeteria, heavy footsteps and the sound of doors slamming growing nearer to us. speeding through the old halls i memorized in grade seven made me lose my sense of direction.
"how did they find us?" lucas whispered out of breath running down a couple of steps, i held onto dustin's hands keeping our flock as close to each other as possible. "i don't know, but they knew we were in the gym," mike replied holding onto els hand.
the doors in front of us opened violently and lights flashed our way, we all turned running into a small corridor. there were armed men already there, we were cornered.
i came to a stop when right in front of me were two armed men and a woman taking center, she cocked her gun, aiming it right at my abdomen.i kept my arms behind me, signaling the kids to not step out of line, and felt the blood rush to the top of my head when i heard more guns clicking behind us.
el stepped out from behind me and extended a hand towards the men, her nose bled in synchronicity with the blood dripping from their eyes, and in a second they all dropped to the ground. the clatter of the guns was all i could focus on, while the lights around us flickered.
el fell sideways completely unconscious, "we need to leave," i motioned to me carrying her out, but mike was freaking out shouting that she wasn't waking up. i yanked on his sleeve to kickstart his sense of panic, "mike, blood draws out demogorgons, we need to leave, now!"
"we're not leaving her!" he shook his arm to take my hand off the fabric of his jacket, "we aren't leaving her," i said calming him down, "leave her," brenner and a row of new armed men lined up in front of us.
he slightly closed his eyes in an odd way when he eyed me, "step away from the child." his voice sounded shaky, maybe fearing that she had faced same fate as his other men. "no, you want her, you have to kill us first," mike declared followed by lucas and dustins agreement, they stepped over el, making a stand.
i was lifted off the ground, men ran past me and picked up the boys from behind. they struggled against the men, shouting at them, while i tried to break free, from behind the kids i could see brenner kneeling next to el.
"eleven, eleven can you hear me? eleven?" he held onto her head with both his hands trying to move her towards consciousness. a very quiet "papa?" was heard from el, finally awake and in her senses. "yes, yes it's your papa, i'm here now," i felt so sick hearing the tone he was using on her, as if to coerce her once more to work for him.
the boys continued to shout at him to let her go, and she turned looking at all her friends in distress. i kicked the man off of me, and was so so close to running to els side, but another guy grabbed me again, pressing a knife against my neck, i strained my neck back trying to distance myself from the blade, only getting it pushed further against me.
el whimpered seeing the blade against my neck, "shh shh, you're sick. you're sick, but i'm going to make you feel better. i'm going to take you back home, where i can make you well again. where we can make this better, so no one else gets hurt," he expectantly waited for her to take up on his offer.
el whispered something out of my earshot and began reaching out for mike repeating his name, the lights flickered and a low grumbling was felt around the school. "blood, blood," mike said confusing dustin and lucas, "let me go," i warned the man still holding the knife.
the cubs paw on the wall directly in front of began cracking and breaking under the pressure of the demogorgon pushing against it, once it'd stepped outside the men holding the boys let them go and began shooting the demogorgon and walking ahead of us.
i still had a knife against my neck, so i began pushing against his arms wanting him to let me go, he grumbled calling me a bitch before plunging the knife into my side, you're kidding, right. i didn't have the strength to even rewind time, so i fell to the floor holding onto my side while the man stepped over my body to shoot alongside the other guys.
dustin and lucas made the effort of getting el off the floor and into dustins hold to ensure getting all of us out of there, blood was still rushing past my fingers as i held my wound trying to heal it.
we ran past men with their guns still drawn, attempting to shoot it down, i just closed my eyes in pain and kept it pushing, almost passing out from ignoring the burning i felt. we ran into an empty classroom, lucas shutting the door behind me, i walked to the back of the class and sat on one of the lab tables.
i took off my sweater and tied it as tightly as i could around my waist trying to slow the blood practically draining out of me, if that thing came to us, it'd be my fault.
a sudden wave of heat ran through my body up to my head, el was laying on the other end of the table, that was the last observation i was able to make as i fell to the side, everything going black.
[...]
my head rolled side to side while dustin held the collar of my shirt trying to wake me up, "felicity, i swear to god, if you don't wake up this minute, we're leaving you," i groaned in response finally standing up with the help of him and lucas, mike was looking around the room whispering el's name.
we'd made it out the class and down a hall before paramedics and firefighters walked in through the school doors, pulling my weight off the kids and carrying me out onto a stretcher. the wheeler's car was pulling into the lot when i was put into the ambulance, dustin followed the paramedics, answering their questions and climbing in alongside me.
[...]
hopper walked into my room giving me a tired look, "hey," i groaned looking down at my side, there were dried patches of blood on my hospital gown, i could feel the stitches when i moved over to the side, making myself more comfortable. "i don't know how to tell you this," he lifted himself off the wall and walked towards my bed, "your mom, we- she didn't make it," my eyes shot up to the ceiling, holding back tears.
"and will?" i asked, he nodded towards a room across mine, "he's in there, really weak, but he'll pull through," i sighed in relief, at least something had gone right tonight, three losses in a row would've sucked more than getting stabbed. hopper lifted two fingers to his mouth blowing out air, i nodded allowing him to excuse himself for a smoke break.
steve walked into the room received a pat on the back from hopper, "hey fizzy," i eyed him, bugged that he was pretending as if what he'd done didn't happen, "rot in hell harrington, does that ring a bell, or does me almost kicking the bucket make your memory fuzzy," he sighed accepting that there was no going back to being friends after the act he'd put on.
"yeah i know, i'm a dick, i just wanted to know if you were okay," i nodded, "i'm fine," i muttered, he started taking a step forward towards me, "i need rest," i whispered turning my back towards the door, hissing when i felt the stitches move with me, at least it was on my left side, i guess. i held my ground until i heard his sneakers far from my room, i turned over onto my back sighing in relief as the pressure was gone.
