a bad day

Anna was having a bad day. She had them every now and then, but right was probably one of her worst. The sleep meds had meant she got more sleep. Which also meant she got more nightmares. She had also had to shift to taking her anxiety medication in the mornings. Which meant that at 4am when she seemed to periodically wake up from nightmares, the medication had little to no effect. And the drowsiness wasn't helping. So Anna was having a bad day.

It was 10am and Anna was yet to knock on Natasha's door. This alarmed Natasha as the latest the girl had ever woken up is 8am the entire time she had been here. She decided to leave it, if Wanda woke up and she hadn't seen Anna, then she would check on her.

Anna had been awake since 7am. This seemed to be the earliest she could wake up without feeling drowsy. However she had lost all motivation to do anything, even move. So she lied there. Ignoring her hunger, her desires to do anything else but just lie there. Ignoring the buzzing of her phone from her bed side table. Probably just the group chat?

Wanda rubbed her eyes walking into the kitchen of where she saw Natasha looking worried
"Morning Nat, whats up?" she questioned as she sat opposite the woman with coffee and toast.
"I need to check on Anna, I think?"
"Whats up?" Wanda asked, she was in no place to give parenting advice but would give it a shot.
"She hasn't come down yet"
"Like at all? Not even to work out?" Natasha slowly shook her head. "Well yeah, I think you should check on her"  Natasha nodded slowly, before walking out of the kitchen.

A knock sounded through Annas room but she honestly didn't care. The girl wanted to be asleep. It was all she really wanted. She wanted a nightmare free sleep. She dreamt of said sleep during the day. And then there was a knock, as she thought about the satisfaction of the nightmare free sleep.

The girl hated to admit how much her past haunted her, it would haunt anyone. But she attempted to hide it, shoved it down deep into her soul to hopefully never see them again. But then she did, on days like this. Oh my god would that knocking just stop it! She thought as her train of thought was continuously disrupted.

Her options were stand up and open the door, shout at the person to go away or wait for Natasha to bust the door down. She decided option 3 would happen soon enough, so what would be the point in getting up. As if on cue. Natasha busted into the girls room. She was curled into foetal on the floor under her duvet with her head on the pillow. Did she always sleep like this?

"Anna" Natasha stated, trying to alert the girl to her presence in the room
"Hey Red" Anna said sitting up onto her elbows.
"You didn't knock on my door to train?"
"I didn't want to train today"
"You didn't want to train today?" It was a common occurrence for different members of the team to miss training, but both Anna and Natasha never did unless completely necessary. They trained together more than anyone else, both finding comfort in it.
"No I didn't, I don't mean to be rude, but I'm kind of busy" Anna said. As much as Natasha wanted to object, wanted to help the girl, she had no idea how to so, as she requested, she left.

Wanda was the only person in the living room. Tony and Bruce most likely in the lab. Sam, Steve and Bucky were all on a mission. Natasha still went on missions, but mostly ones which included her espionage skills that the rest of the team didn't have. Both Wanda and Anna had struggled to adjust to the compound and each seemed to cling onto Natasha, and she felt responsible for looking after the two girls. Because of this, she took a step back from most field operations and helped with training here and there and paperwork for both SHIELD and the avengers. Honestly, she didn't mind the step back from field work but did enjoy getting called into emergency missions.

"How is she?" Wanda asked as Natasha sat next to her on the couch.
"I-uhhh..." Natasha was asking herself that question. She could seen the medications slowly taking a toll
on Anna and wasn't sure what to do. Right now she was pretty sure she should call Nicole. Yeah, she was going to call Nicole.
"That good huh? Should I go check in her?"
"No, Wanda leave her for a bit I think, I need to make a call"
