Chapter 7: Out of the Sewers

Merida's POV

Ow. I felt the hard ground under my back and winced lightly. Footsteps sounded around me, but no one spoke. Someone was pacing, someone was tapping on the wall and another person was making metallic thuds as they walked towards the pacing person.

I kept my eyes closed.

"How much longer until it wears off?" Someone asked.

"She should have woken up already, but her injuries might slow the process."

"We can't stay hidden down here much longer."

"I know. Give her a little longer."

One of the voices was very unfamiliar, the second was just on the tip of my tongue, but neither of them seemed very hostile.

Either way, I needed to make sure before I-

"She's awake." The tapping person said, and I immediately identified the voice as Robin's.

Well, too late now.

I opened my eyes and quickly scrambled up from the floor. Pacing person was Renegade and the other was a cyborg man or just had some really thin and well fitting armour.

I saw another familiar woman, Sunflare the Terrible, but she was wearing different clothes now. Very uh... revealing.

"So we're all friends now?" I asked, looking at the woman warily.

"I wouldn't say friends..." The cyborg said, frowning.

"We need you to tell us a way out of here, the place is swarming with villians, our old escape route is out of the question." Renegade said.

I thought for a second.

"The tunnels might work, but it's near Killer Croc's office. How is he, by the way?" I asked.

"Very angry, but he won't be getting free for a while." Renegade said.

"Ok then. Let's go."

I turned around and found the door, peeked through an opening and looked into the hallway. It was clear.

I turned around and looked at Robin.

"Did the EMP work?" I asked.

"Yeah."

I nodded curtly and then took off running through the hallway. It didn't take long to reach the Killer Croc's office, which wasn't far from the tunnel. But I had to use the switch in his office to dump out the water into the sewer.

I entered the room and saw two guards in there. They spotted me and I charged, grabbing both their heads and smashed them together.

They fell to the ground unconscious.

I saw the switch of the wall and grabbed it, then yanked it down. That should cause a chain reaction that released the water from the tunnels into the sewer system. Killer Croc uses the tunnel to get to and from the surface, but he swims.

I turned back around and walked through the others, going back out the door and walking to the tunnel. I jumped down.

Then we were quickly running across and soon enough, there was a ladder leading to a manhole cover. I grinned.

"Wow. That was easier than I thought it would be." Renegade said and I looked back at him curiously.

I was unconscious less than a minute ago.

"You have an odd definition of ease." Sunflare said, smiling softly.

"Let's just go." Robin said and I nodded in agreement, turning around and lifting the cover.
