The next couple of days pass by full of eating healthy meals and learning how to fight demons and even other angels which left my muscles feeling sore and aching making every night I go to sleep that much more enjoyable. Kendall has barely talked to us since the rules were said, every day after training she went to her room almost immediately. Alex always looked at me worried when she did and a sad look would wash over his face when I tell him not to bother her. Part of me wishes there was something I could do to make her feel better and fix whatever problem she was having, but I don't think I can.
"My angels, you have done so well training and becoming the best protectors for your chosen ones," Alice said smiling for the first time with her hands neatly placed behind her back as usual.
"Like we had a choice." I smiled no one laughed, but it was the truth its not like any of us chose this.
"One thing is for sure I'm not gonna miss your sarcasm," Alice said looking at me sternly once again.
I looked over at Kendall as she held the photo of the boy she loved still clutched in her hand. Sometimes when I walked by her room or I guess pod I could hear her talking to him and telling him how much she missed him. It made me wish I had a picture of Evelyn so I could feel like I was talking to her again and telling her about my day or just how I was feeling. I still remember the day we met like it was yesterday.
1991
"It's your first day of course I'm gonna drop you off." My mum said as I groaned standing by the door with my worn backpack hanging on my shoulder.
"My first day of hell, yeah, would be better if I had my mum there to drop me off and kiss me on the cheek so I seem cool." I sarcastically replied.
"What's wrong with a kiss from mummy?" Ashley asked as she turned her little head around the bathroom corner staring up at me with her blue eyes.
"Nothing my little ladybug, you ready for school?" I asked sweetly smiling at her.
"I just gotta grab my backpack." She smiled and ran into her and my mum's shared bedroom grabbing her ladybug backpack I got her with what money I got from my first week of work.
"Look at you, you're so stylish," I said smiling a little ball of happiness forming in my stomach looking at her so happy about it.
"Thank you bubby." She said smiling the biggest smile at me and hugging my legs.
"Look at my two beautiful children." My mum said walking into the living room with a disposable camera in her hands.
"Are we really about to take the first day of school pictures?" I asked looking at my mom making sure she knew how ridiculous this tradition of hers was.
"We do it every year, why wouldn't we this year?" She asked laughing at me.
"Because I don't like my picture being taken." I smiled being completely honest with her as she frowned at me.
"Cmon you two stand next to each other and say cheese." She said motioning for us to get closer so we can pose and we did smiling and saying cheese as the camera blinded us with its flash.
"Alright, we gotta go little ladybug," I said smiling picking Ashley up in my arms and smiling at her and her doing the same back.
Me and my mum walked to the car and she opened the back for me so I could sit Ashley in her booster seat and make sure she was strapped in correctly and had her seatbelt on. I gave her a smile and tickle before I went up to the passenger side and climbed in next to my mother who was already dressed in her work uniform. I quickly took control of the radio as she put the key in the ignition. Before she could say anything I put the radio on the station that played the best grunge pop-punk bands and smiled as the music hit my ears and even Ashley smiled at me when I put it on.
