Chapter 5: Date With a Vampire

Alex's POV

I ran to the club room as soon as Lars left and yelled,

"Guys! We've got a huge problem!" But of course, Andrew just worries about me...

"Alex?! What are you doing up so early?!"

"You shouldn't be relaxing like this! They... They know everything!" I thought back to about an hour ago, talking to Lars.

"Alex? How do I know about them...Wait, do you?" Ah! Oh no! If I admit I know them, he'll find out the Russell brothers are vampires!

"What I mean is...the Russell Brothers! How do you know them? They're so famous there isn't a single person at school who doesn't know them. But I didn't know they're so awful that they're known as monsters. I'll keep that in mind! Hah...haha..." My thoughts came back to the current time,

"I ran off to avoid being letting anything else slip, but... That wasn't just a suspicion, he was certain!"

"Well...sure it was. It's Lars we're talking about, after all..."

"Hold on, Andrew. What did you just say now? Lars, Lars...Lars Hegner? Kane Hegner's brother?" Jay almost sounded...worried.

"How could Jay know that..." I ask.

"Ms Alex, what is the nature of your relationship with them?" Jay asks me.

"They're my closest friends. They've lived right next to me since I was a kid. Especially Lars, we practically grew up together... Do the Russells and Hegners know each other or something?" Finally, Theo decides to say something,

"Rather well. They're the absolute worst." Just like how he reacted last night...

"Just why do you hate each other so much?" I ask.

"Do you not know? They're-" But Andrew stops Theo,

"Wait, stop!!" Andrew quickly jumps in between Theo and I, "Alex! Sorry, but I need to borrow Theo for a sec! We brothers need to coordinate our opinions."

"What does that even...So suddenly?" I ask.

"So sorry!"

As Andrew apologizes once more, he takes Theo and Jay to the far side of the club room. Well, that's suspicious... Based on the context, it's obvious that they're talking about me... Should I listen to them, or just sit tight... While I try to decide what to do, they finish their discussion and head back over to me.

"Sorry about the wait." Andrew apologizes.

"What did you talk about?" I ask Andrew sweetly. But Jay replies,

"We talked about how we feel there's been a misunderstanding. We and the humans of the Hegner family have known each other for quite some time... They aren't particularly fond of how secretive we are. We think that might be why they told you those malicious rumours. As if we're the same as Count Dracula from the stories."

"No, they really never told me that you're vampires..."

"Nevertheless. Is that what you came here to tell us?" Jay intentionally changes the flow of the conversation. It's like...he doesn't want to talk about it anymore. I'm sure of it. They're hiding something from me. But if they're being this defensive about it... Maybe I should just play along for now.

"No, it's not. Of course, I didn't just come because of that news. I came here this early because of..." I turn my gaze to him...

"Me? You came here because of me?" Andrew questions.

"You left so suddenly yesterday. Are you feeling okay?"

"I'm touched. You all seein' this? Look how lovely my girlfriend is!"
