Alex's POV
It is the evening of the senior prom, I'm laying my outfit choices on my bed and calling my friend for advice.
"What should I wear to prom? Should I dress up or go in something casual?" I asked her.
"Hmm," I could tell she wasn't going to give me a proper answer, "whichever is more revealing."
"Oh gosh! What does senior prom mean to you?"
"It's the night you become a real adult. Don't worry though, when my boyfriend and I did it we used a con..." but I cut her off no way was I going to listen to her brag about her sex life.
"Wait, wait! Alex, you're coming with Lars, right?" of course I was,
"Who else would take me as their date?" even though I couldn't see her I could tell she was rolling her eyes.
"Woah, Woah... having a good-looking childhood friend like Lars is a good thing, amigo. This is your chance to take your relationship to the next level, got it?" after asking she just hung up.
"Childhood friend..." As I'm thinking about her words, I hear my mom's voice calling from downstairs.
"Alex! Are you ready? Hurry up, because Lars will be arriving soon." I look out my bedroom door in shock and yell back,
"What? I'm going to be late! I need to choose what I'm going to wear to the party!" I grabbed the fanciest formal dress I had and chucked it on. I looked in the mirror, fiddling with the puffy dress. The dress was emerald green and had gold patterns on it, I grabbed some gold bangles and a golden choker from my cupboard and slipped on the green and gold heels that were in my shoebox.
"I'm not really used to wearing these kinds of clothes, but this will do. Do I look like someone who's been waiting for this day to come?" I was speaking to myself, but I didn't really care. I heard the doorbell ring and screamed,
"AHHHH, Lars is here! Hold on! Be there in a sec!" I rush down the stairs, being careful not to trip over my own feet or the dress.
I ran right into the arms of the guy who was currently stepping into my house. He joked and said,
"Woah, Alex. Slow down. Are you that excited to go to the prom with me?" I just blushed and looked down at my feet. Lars had been my friend since he moved next door in Elementary school all the way up to high school. And today he's my prom date. My friends were telling me to use this chance to take our relationship to the next level. I wonder how we look to other people, for them to be saying that? To me, Lars and I are the most precious people we have for each other. I myself never said I liked him more than as a friend. However, we were always together and prioritized each other before anyone else. It was so natural for us to choose each other as prom dates. So, we're... we're not just friends... are we? Who knows, maybe we'll call each other something else after tonight. I stare at Lars blankly while I consider the possibilities. As he's laughing, I ask him a question,
"How do I look?" I twirled around in my dress, almost falling over because of my heels. He reached his hand out to help steady me and replied, laughing a bit,
"I was just about to say this. Alex, you look beautiful. That dress looks amazing on you."
"Thank you. I think so too." He was offended and replied with a booming voice
"Is that it? I just gave you a compliment, don't you have anything else to say to your date?"
I thought for a second, Lars just staring at me impatiently, tapping his foot on the ground.
"Something to say to my date? You look really good today. Or maybe you just look like that because I'm excited about the party."
"Is that really a compliment?" He sounded so suspicious of me.
