Alyssa was sitting across from her little sister Anne on the train from Nova Scotia. they were told that two siblings had wanted to adopt the two of them and that they were going to a small town called Avonlea to meet them.

Just then a baby started crying catching both the sister's attention. Anne's face pales as a horrible memory comes crashing back to her, while her older sister kept calm and sat up straighter than she already was.

"Anne? Are you okay?" The older redhead questioned her little sister.

The younger redhead started hyperventilating while looking at the mother and her child as the horrible memories of what she and her older sister went through.

Upon hearing her breathing pick up, a woman who sat next to Anne turned in her seat to look at the young girl and spoke to the younger sister.

"Are you alright, dear?" The woman asked.

Anne turned her head, meeting the woman's gaze she says, "I like imagining better than remembering. Why are the worst memories the most insistent?" Anne said to the woman.

"I wouldn't know. Try to rest." The woman says while looking at Anne as if she were crazy.

Anne looked back in front of her, meeting her older sister's gaze the older girl turned away and looked outside the window instead.

"'If all the world hated you and believed you wicked... but your own conscience approves of you and absolved you from guilt... you would not be without friends.' I love Jane Eyre, don't you?" Anne said, glancing at the woman beside her.

"I never met her." The woman replied, looking at Anne as if she were the weirdest person on the planet.

"I'm glad you've woken. I have so many more questions for you about Green Gables. I bet Ali does too." Anne spoke to the woman again.

"I'm sure you girls do. Especially you." The woman says while looking at the younger sister.

"Only a few miss," Alyssa said to her, being the respectful young lady, she was.

"Why do you suppose neither of the Cuthberts ever get married? Did either of them have a tragic romance?" Anne questioned the woman.

"It's none of our business." The woman answers the curious redhead, her frustration with the girl's questions evident in her features.

"But I'm bursting with curiosity!" Anne exclaimed loudly.

"Uh... shh." The woman said to Anne, glancing around in embarrassment.

"Anne Shirley, behave yourself!" Her sister scolded softly, looking around embarrassed at what her sister had done.

The train came to an abrupt stop at the station of Avonlea. The two redheads got off of the train and were now patiently waiting for the Cuthbert's to collect them.

Alyssa was reading a book while Anne just sat down there using her imagination when her eyes caught site of a cherry tree nearby.

"Anne, how many times do I have to tell you to sit up straight?" The older redhead told her sister as she slouched a bit.

"I'm sorry Lysa, but what do you think the Cuthbert's are like? Oh, I can just imagine how-"

"I don't know Anne, but please don't ask to many questions, don't talk nonsense and PLEASE act like a proper lady." Alyssa said cutting her off.

"But why? Shouldn't we be allowed to express ourselves?" Anne asks her older sister.

"That's not how the world works Anne." She told her sister.

"But shouldn't it work that way?" Anne asks.

"It's just the way it is Anne! Don't you get it! You can't escape reality! You can't always just use your imagination; you have to think rationally!" Alyssa finally snapped.

"I- I'm sorry." Alyssa apologized.

"It's alright." Anne said to her sister.

The two girls sat in silence until Anne saw an older man walking up to them, she immediately stood up alarming her big sister.

"I suppose you're Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables? We're very glad to see you." Anne walked forward, shaking Matthew's hand quickly.

"I was beginning to be afraid you weren't coming, and I was imagining all the things that might've happened to prevent you. I've made up my mind that if you didn't come for us, we'd go down the track to that big wild cherry tree and climb up onto it and stay all night. I wouldn't be afraid, neither would my sister, it would be lovely to sleep in a tree white with bloom in the moonshine, don't you think."

Matthew put his hands on Anne's that kept shaking his hand the whole time she was speaking, and gently let go of the girl's hand.

"I can also imagine that-"

"Anne you're rambling again. Hello Mr. Cuthbert, my name is Alyssa it's pleasure to meet you." Alyssa introduces herself, giving him her hand for him to shake.

Matthew stood there surprised on how the girl held herself but shook her hand, nonetheless.

Matthew looked stunned staring at the two girls, the two looked nothing like if you can count their hair, while Anne had many freckles adorning her face Alyssa had none, the two girls' eyes were also very different seeing as Anne had beautiful blue eyes while Lyss had gorgeous hazel ones. Alyssa was also a few inches taller than her sister and had obviously already had her growth spurt but of course the two girls still looked beautiful in their own way and even if they did look different in looks, they still had similar personality traits.

On the way to the Green Gables Anne would not stop talking which annoyed Alyssa a bit but said nothing letting her sister enjoy herself.

Once the three got there Marilla was surprised seeing two girls instead of two boys.

After a lot of talking and Anne having a breakdown Alyssa finally spoke up.

"I apologize for the mistake miss Cuthbert we will get back on the next train and send word to the asylum to send two boys here instead again I am very sorry for this." Alyssa says before pulling Anne up from the ground.

Anne immediately wrapped her arms around her older sister crying into her shoulder. Alyssa just hugged her little sister back still having her cold mask on but on the inside her heart was breaking the spark of hope in her had already diminished but kept her emotions hidden needing to be strong for her sister because Anne is more important her sister would always be her top priority.

Alyssa remembered how excited her sister had been when they had found out and she loved the memory her sister's smile was beautiful and she loved it because it reminded her on what kept her going in this awful world her little sister, her only family, her partner and her person.

Alyssa always had a plan that if they didn't get adopted by the time, they turned sixteen she would marry a rich man to be able to give her sister a good life even if it meant being in a loveless marriage.

Marilla looked at the twins feeling pity for the two they must have been heartbroken being told that you were finally being adopted but being told that they weren't what they wanted must have been hard on the two.

The sister looked at the other twin seeing that she was masking her emotions looking as if she didn't feel anything for the situation, but her eyes were telling a different story there were a few tears that were threatening to fall but she wouldn't let them.

"Well, we best be off then once again apologies for the inconvenience." Alyssa says calmly to the two siblings.

Anne was now standing next to her sister with red eyes and a few stray tears still falling on her freckled cheeks.

Marilla sighs walking forward telling the girls to come inside, Alyssa immediately complying as per usual Anne following her sister's lead.

Having learned the twins' names Matthew tells his sister what they were and describing which twin was who.
