"it feels nice outside."

"it sure does."

"we should do something outside."

"y/n/n, just because it's nice outside doesn't mean we have to do something."

"i know. it means we should do something. it's not required. just... encouraged."

mary shakes her head, laughing at my antics.

"we could meet up with lily and marlene and dorcas when their class is finished. and then we could go swim in the black lake. that would be fun," i say, turning around to face mary while walking backwards.

"i don't know if the girls would want to go swimming," mary says.

"then i can ask james and sirius and remus and peter."

"they hang out with you because you hang out with lily."

"they like me."

"not enough to go swimming with you."

i shake my head, turning back around. "it's too nice of a day to pass up."

mary puts her hand on my shoulder, causing me to stop. "if you really want to go outside, go outside. no one is stopping you."

"but i like to go with people."

"don't you like trying new things?" mary asks.

i nod.

"try a new thing, then," mary says, smiling sweetly at me. i can tell she's trying to be sweet, but i can also tell she's tired of my blabbing. "go outside by yourself."

i bite the inside of my cheek. "okay, fine. i'll be out of your hair," i say, walking away from her.

"if she doesn't want to talk to me, she can just say that," i mutter out loud.

i set another flower crown down in the grass. i had made five while sitting outside. (by myself.)

i laid down in the grass, looking up at the sky. the grass prickled my skin, but it wasn't a bad feeling. just a strange one. i looked up at the sky with all of its clouds swirling around.

i tried to pick out shapes that they made until i heard someone speak up a few feet away.

"what are you doing?" they ask.

"laying in the grass. watching the clouds. alone."

"why?"

"because it's nice outside and none of my friends wanted to join."

"well, why are you watching the clouds?"

"because someone told me that clouds look like animals sometimes, so i'm trying to find the animals."

there's a moment of silence before they speak up again. "huh. you're right."

i sit up, looking at the stranger who was talking to me. he was a slytherin in my year. i didn't know him, but he did look familiar.

"i was making flower crowns, but i got bored of that," i say, motioning to the aforementioned flower crowns next to me.

"why would you do that?" he asks, sitting across from me with the flower crowns in front of him.
