X: The Ministry Arrives

James was a bit confused when he woke up in his dormitory that morning. Conflicting memories where floating in his head from the night before, when it was the full moon and James and the boys made their way to the Shrieking Shack.

Or at least, that was supposed to happen.

One part of his brain was showing him memories of being in the Shrieking Shack and horseplaying in stag form with Lupin, Sirius, and Peter. A normal night during the full moon. The other one was showing flashes of that kid who showed up for a "school project", Lupin being cut by a dagger which shone evilly in the moonlight, and Snivillius shooting a Stunning Spell at Sirius.

A small part of James was tempted to squash the latter memories, but he knew they were there for a reason. He just needed to figure out why.

"Prongs, you alright?" Sirius asked, snapping his fingers in front of James' face. "We've been waiting for ten minutes already."

"Yeah, I'm fine, just thinking. You can go on to breakfast without me," James replied absentmindedly.

"I'll save you some toast, and of course," Sirius continued in an ominous voice, "a scrambled egg."

They both looked at each other for a moment and then burst out laughing. The two Gryffindors had an inside joke about scrambled eggs, and it all started when James refused to eat one before his first Quidditch match. Since then, he carried on the proud tradition, and it soon extended to outside Quidditch match breakfasts.

Sirius gave one final laugh before disappearing with a quick good-bye.

As James dressed for the day, not really paying attention to what he was putting on, he tried to think logically about why two conflicting memories would appear of the night before. One answer could be a Memory Charm was placed on him, but that wouldn't make sense. Memory Charms remove memories, not replace them. (Someone pointed out that that was incorrect but we'll pretend thats what they do for now) James tried to reach for the "off" memories- the ones that didn't make any sense, but they got murkier with every attempt.

With a sigh, he gave up. For now, at least, because James Potter doesn't "give up".

James headed down to the Great Hall, ignoring any greetings from passerbys. He wanted to finish breakfast as quickly as possible, so he could head down to the library and find some answers to the conflicting. It would be a sight to see, James Potter at the library.

"Mate, do you have that toast that you promised?"

"Yes-"

"Thanks, I'll be going now." James grabbed the toast from his friend's hand and began to run out of the Great Hall. Suddenly he felt a presence beside him- it looked like Sirius had caught up with him.

"Hold on, Prongs, what's going on, where in the bloody hell are you headed to?" Sirius asked.

"I'll tell you later, right now I'm headed to the library-"

"James!"

"Fine, I'll stay here. In the boring Great Hall. Which has no knowledge."

"Sometimes, I wonder why I deal with you."

James reluctantly made his way back to his seat, but being the stubborn Gryffindor he was, he refused to eat anything on his plate, just to prove a point (and annoy Sirius).

"My god," Sirius exclaimed after James hadn't touched his plate in fifteen minutes, "eat. If you won't, I'm shoving your face into your plate."

James didn't eat, so his face was shoved into the plate.

"I hate you," James deadpanned.

"I know."

Just then, the ornate doors of the Great Hall banged open, and a group of wizards and witches flooded in, all with Ministry of Magic badges decorating their dark blue robes for all to see.

"We're here on the premise that dark magic has been used. Nico di Angelo, you are under arrest."

Nico wanted to bang his head on the wall. Of course his demigod powers that he used last night would be classified as "dark magic".

Dippet smiled. "Aha, you see, I knew there was something wrong about him. So I set the dark magic alarms as soon as he came."

Dumbledore sighed. "They are always on, Headmaster."

"Well, I still called the Ministry this morning," Dippet said proudly, trying to gain some clout.

Sorry, sorry sorry, Emily's panicked voice rang in Nico's head. I didn't think the Trace around the school would count your powers as dark magic. And before you wonder- a simple charm I invented for telepathy, so we can talk both ways. It only lasts for a couple minutes.

Ah, Nico mentally replied.

"Nico di Angelo, do not resist," one of the Ministry officials said. He flashed a bright light, so Nico couldn't use shadows. "We're taking for a trial, to Wizangaunt Court."

There was an annoying scratching noise with every word the Ministry official said. Nico looked, and saw that it was coming from a toad-like woman, with a much-to-large amount of pink on her clothing.

"Hold on," Emily protested to the Ministry officials. The murmurs of the students increased, sensing that more drama was about to occur. "How do you know this really happened? You only have second-hand information, given to you through Headmaster Dippet, who has proven to be unreliable before, since the Trace around the school has failed to detect Vo- You-Know-Who's wrong-doings with dark magic when he was a student here."

"Yeah!" Everyone turned to see that the shout came from Sirius Black, and with that mutters of similar words started appearing from the student body. This was Sirius Black, and he was the second-most popular kid in his grade. Of course his words would start a chain reaction.

"Enough!" With a zip of his wand, the Ministry official silenced the crowd. "He will be given a trial. That is enough."

I'll be fine, Nico telepathy to Emily.

Wait- but Emily's voice cut off as her charm wore off. The Ministry officials circled Nico and they marched out the door.

"James, what'd you want to tell me before?" Sirius whispered. It was probably a good time, given that a demigod was being dragged off by the government.

James blinked. "I can't remember." It seemed that the Mist had done its work.

1032 words.

I don't have an update schedule anymore apparently lmao
