Request: The reader is trying to get Tamaki out of his shell :D
Decided to have a little bit of fun with this. You are back in the States at one of your little nieces birthday party during a school break and invite Tamaki along and use your niece's birthday as an opportunity to get him to be more sociable.
Heyyyyyy, I'm back! I'm thinking about opening up requests again and finishing/getting to ones I may have missed because school is finally over. Also, I've been thinking of doing some chapters for the girls if you guys are interested.
Summer break was finally here, and it definitely could not have come any sooner. Y/n's mom decided that since the break in Japan compared to the US was so short, they should fly down there and spend a good majority of it in the latter. Y/n was told she could bring a friend if she wanted to bring one, so she invited her boyfriend, Tamaki.
Tamaki and Y/n were both polar opposites, with Y/n being a social butterfly and Tamaki being the more timid and introverted of the pair. He was actually pretty excited (in his own way) to be able to go-a chance to see where Y/n was from and see a new country in general.
The first few days were fun-they visited Ocean City, Maryland and stayed in a hotel there (Amajiki and Y/n got their own rooms of course) and got to buy all these cute souvenirs and even chilled out at the beach every now and again. Then came the day of the birthday party.
For Y/n and her mom, it was a chance to catch up and meet new family members, but for Tamaki, it was an anxiety attack waiting to happen. Just about everything made him nervous about the party-from M/n's sudden announcement about it out of the blue, to the drive to a city two hours over, to pulling up to a house in an open field with a bunch of people, young and old, scattered around the front.
Y/n's mother pulled up along the dirt path and parked the car next to a few alongside the trees. After pulling the key out of the ignition, she grabbed her things piled up in the front seat while the duo in the backseat adjusted their clothes and hair.
"You two, don't spend so much time in this car, now," M/n said as she cracked the car door.
"We won't," Y/n assured with a smile, her mom slamming the door as she grabbed her boyfriend's hand.
Tamaki's POV
I could already tell this was going to be bad. The only family member of Y/n's I know is her mom, and even she makes me anxious sometimes-I'm not ready to meet her whole family! I felt my hands get all clammy and I instantly wanted to crawl into a hole and die.
"Hey, Tamaki." Y/n's hand enveloped my own and I turned to face her.
"You'll be fine. Some of my family can be a bit....rowdy, but you'll be okay. Just breathe." I took her advice and sucked it a long breath. I held it for a second, and let it all out.
"Okay, I think I'm fine."
"Also, wipe your hands." She handed me a baby wipe.
"My bad."
We both exited the car, and the moment we did, a few heads turned our way.
"Okay, sooooo..."
Oh no....
"Some of my older family members can be a little annoying and nosey, so just ignore them, okay?"
"Yeah, sure." She hooked her arm with mine and pulled me along with her.
We made our way to a grand house. There were people chatting around the front door steps and kids running around with popsicles and water balloons.
"There's my niece!" A woman that looked like Y/n's mom, only slightly older approached us with her arms outstretched, expecting a hug. She let go of my arm to hug her.
"Hey auntie," she said while returning the hug. She looked at me and I felt my body stiffen.
"Who's this?" By the looks of her face, I don't think she liked me.
"Auntie," she squinted her eyes at her and her aunt threw her hands up and backed off.
"Alright, alright, excuse me," she said with emphasis on the "excuse me."
"C'mon, let's go and meet some of my cousins," she said, grabbing me and pulling me along inside, greeting and introducing me to family members along the way.
We went down into the basement, where there was a bunch of fresh food and dessert lined up on a bar. There were some people our age and some slightly older in a line for some food. Y/n and I walked over, and parked it at the back.
"What's up lil cuzzo?" A guy taller than both of us with a pik comb approached us and greeted her.
"Hey, Jamal," she said as she gave him a side hug.
"Who's this?"
Y/n's hand found her way to my back, something she often did when she knew I was uncomfortable.
"My boyfriend, Tamaki. Tamaki, this is my older cousin, Jamal."
"H-hey..." I nodded at him and he held his hand out to me and dapped me up-something Y/n liked to do with me at the randomest times.
"So, how long are you guys and auntie m/n staying?" He asked.
Y/n nudged me in the side as the line moved up
"Oh, uh, um...just until the end of summer," I answered, a lot less nervous than when I got here. Jamal seemed really nice and cool, and his presence was sort of welcoming.
Y/n, Jamal and I ended up getting our food, finally. Y/n and Jamal introduced me to some of their cousins around our age and for the most part it was pretty cool. We sang happy birthday for her niece, and Y/n gpt me to talk to some of her older family members, too. Her uncle and grandparents were nice. She ended up pulling me off to the side so we could share a piece of cake in private (or as private as we could get)
"You're having fun," she told me and I could feel my cheeks getting warm.
"Yeah, your family is really nice. Except for your mom's sister." she kept side eyeing and making offhand comments about us (mostly me) the entire time we were there. I think she didn't like me because I was dating Y/n? I'm not entirely sure, but her mom got sick of it and cussed her out, embarrassing her and saving us some trouble,
"Yeah..her-she's annoying," she sighed, taking a bite out of our cake. "Glad my mom stepped in when she did." We sat there for a few moments or so, enjoying the rest of the cake until she spoke up again.
"Sorry if I made you uncomfortable," She said finally. "I know being social isn't your thing, but I figured since we were coming here and figured it would be nice to try and get you to open up a little. I chuckled.
"I was kind of irritated for the first couple of hours, but I did have fun," I replied softly with a light smile. I turned to her and pressed my lips onto her own for a few moments.
"Give me a heads up before you throw me into uncomfortable social situations, okay?"
"Sure thing. Now get off your ass-I'm craving another piece of cake!"
