I woke up a little light headed. I sat up and rubbed my eyes, feeling the blood rush to my head. I looked at what time it was and noticed that it was only an hour before where I had to meet Alexander. Rolling my eyes at the hought, I walked into my kitchen and opened the fridge. My goal was juice, however, there was only soda left. It was better than nothing, an I grabbed the can and popped it open.

I walked into the next room and grabbed a chair by my book set. Sitting my soda on the ground next to me, I yawned and pulled out a book. The raggeded desk lamp was the only light in the house but it was just enough to light up the pages.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

It was one of my favorites, a classic book that was recovered from the clutter mess left over from the Final World War. It was about a girl who tries to explain big events from her little mind. It reminded me of me when I was that little girl. The one who was trying to explain why my parent's head were on the ground yet their bodies remained in their bed. It was quite the explination.

I flipped to a post-it note that marked one of my favorite parts from the book.

"Music again swelled around us; the last note lingered and Zeebo met it with the next line: "And we only reach that shore by faith's decree.""

For so long I wanted to know what it meant, what was music? What does it mean by faith's decree? The most I wanted to know about the book was who was the Mockingbird?

I smiled as I closed the book, and slid it on the shelf. I had ten minutes now to go to the bridge before the guards start their exchange. I slid on some boots and put on a coat. Making my way to the door I stopped and turned for the cigs. I probably will need these so I stuffed them into my pocket and left the small house through the top floor window. I left a small crack and looked down at the side walk.

It was empty and started to become covered with snow. I was had to be sneaky because there are cameras. Lights out had just begun, now it was time for me to move. The street lamps turned off and I moved my hands in swift motions. This caused the snow to pile up for a soft landing. I jumped down and landed in the soft pile.

The fastest way for me to get the bridge was the river, but I had to get there undetected. I pulled snow aound my body, making a suit to blend in and avoid the cameras going off. I slowly tiptoed towards the river. When it was clear, I jumped in. I could breathe under water, but it was freezing over, making it difficult. I quickly swam threw the freezing water, my limbs stiffen for every second Im in there.

I reached my destination, under the Locket Bridge. I came out of the water and onto the bank under the bridge. I took my hand and pulled the water off of my clothes and poured it back into the water. I sat down onto a ledge under the bridge and watied for Alexander. My stomac turned at the thought of his lecture.

Five minutes passed and I watche as the river was about to freeze over. If he didn't show up quick then I cant make it home.

"I'm sorry for the wait Noel."

I turned around to see him walking up. "It's about time you showed up." I snarked.

"I'm sorry, I actually thought you weren't going to show up.." His voice was lost.

"I decided to this time..." I pulled out the carton and grabbed a cigarette and offered one to him.

He popped it in his mouth. "Something we share in common, cheep crappy cigs from the black market."

I smiled "Yea but I forgot my stupid damn lighter..."

"Here," he placed his hand on my cheek and turned my head towards his lighter. It lit instantly and so did the blushing on my face.

"Why did you want to see me Alex?" I puffed out a cloud.

"Because I wanted to understand somthing.. Like why you will not let me in anymore or why you left me alone to be laughed at, at the ceremony." He looked down and held the cig between his fingers.

"I-" I couldn't come up with an excuse.

"It's okay.. I know I wouldn't be the happiest person if my parents died infront of my face..." He looked at me with his damn milky eyes.

"Alex... I'm sorry I left you out, but it's more complicate than just that..." I said to him as I inhaled the last of my cig.

"I know Noel.." He kept his gaze on me.

I quickly looked away and saw that the river froze over. "Shit!"

"It's okay just come back to my house, I'll get you home before morning rutine." He grabbed my hand before I could reject.

The guards were coming back to their post after their 20 minute change/break. We ran through a thick woods towards log cabin. To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect next, other than regret and mistakes.
