Chapter 8

The tests the following morning were just as easy as yesterdays, a different subject but still what you expected them to be. Just like every morning, you walked with the siblings to school while adorning your cute rose keychain. Neither you or Gloxinia got a lot of questions, you mostly just got compliments. 

"It's a really cute set!" Elaine caught you during the lunch break as you were placing your stuff into your bag. She held it gently while she admired it. She snuck a peak at Gloxinia's earlier, not needing to see them side by side to know they were matching aside from colors. "You guys are like a real couple now." Elaine giggled a bit, referencing her own matching accessory on her phone she got with Ban.

"We're not a couple, Elaine." You laughed with her, waving a hand to dismiss the idea. From Elaine's perspective all you needed was to be official, she wouldn't be surprised.

"Aren't we?" Gloxinia butted into the conversation, his chin resting in his hand and a smug look on his face. He was teasing, of course. 

"Don't give her ideas!" You grabbed the box lunch you made him and practically threw it to his desk rather than waiting for him to get ready. "I don't appreciate the teasing either." You tried to seem serious but the blush that decorated your face betrayed you.

"Thank you~" Gloxinia opened the small bento box and ate his food without saying another word in your conversation.

"Come onnn." Elaine whined, seeing your exchange. "You help him study, you make him lunch every day, you always walk to and from school together...You even have matching charms now." Elaine wasn't fooled, her voice in a bit of a whisper regardless.

"It's not like that, Elaine." You felt a little more embarrassed, somehow missing how obvious it must be to others. "I just live close by and I need help studying too." You tried to dissuade her while you opened your own bento, placing the lid next to your bag on the desk.

"Really?" She seemed mischievous, a cheshire grin across her lips. "What was the group that attacked the main characters?" Elaine held up your mythology book, referencing the chapter you all just had a test on.

"The commandments." You raised an eyebrow, taking a small bite of your food.

"And the name of the druid who was also a goddess?" She seemed like she was going somewhere with this.

"Elizabeth." You sighed your response, taking the book gently from her hands. "We just had a test on this, anyone would know."

"But that proves you don't need to study!" Elaine put both hands on your desk excitedly as if she made a point. "So you're doing it to be nice!" Once she said that last bit she folded her arms proudly. It wasn't entirely inaccurate but you didn't have time to refute her point. Elaine's name was called by Ban who was standing in the doorway, having taken his time coming down to the fairy hall to eat with his girlfriend.

"For what it's worth…" Elaine waved at Ban, turning away from your desk. "I think he likes you too." She wasn't exactly leaving you with a nugget of wisdom, rather an observation. Once she left your desk you shook your head, trying to ignore that last bit.

"As if…." You picked at your food, suddenly not as hungry as you were a couple moments ago. "I really don't think so." It wasn't that you thought he hated you but you've never seen Gloxinia interested in anyone romantically. His interests lie in Drole or Meliodas who offer him interesting company and fun, not in you who only makes food and study guides for him.

"Hey." Gloxinia spotted you picking at your food rather than eating. "If you don't eat I'm telling Gerheade." He interrupted your thoughts with a threat, seeing a familiar look on your face. You always seemed to get lost in thought when something was troubling you.
