It was Autumn. Not that Ranae would care, she doesn't care for the outside or nature like that. "She wasn't mothernature", as she would say. It was the beginning of 6th grade and everyone were chit chatting about the school's Thanksgiving's party this evening.

"Ranae, are you going too?" Krista Norfleet asked her. "Yea, I'm going with Mariam." she replied. She wasn't the partying type, though her friends had to convinced her to come.

They had their own "squad" in 6JJ. It was Penelope Ellis, Krista Norfleet, Colleen Turpin, and Ranae. They weren't as very popular to the rest, but they were getting there.

The bell had rung as a signal to the ending of p.m. homeroom and everyone rushed outside the classroom to line up and get dismissed. There was the regular pushing and shoving, just to get comfortable.

After dismissal, Penelope, Colleen, Krista, and Ranae were standing outside waiting behind the school gates to find out what they were going to do next. There were orange leaves blowing in everyone's faces and the trees leaves were falling already. "I need to go home first and change", Krista blurted. "Can you guys walk me?" "I'll come", Penelope said. "Me too", Colleen added. "I have to wait for Mariam. I'll see you guys later", Ranae stated. "Kay, later", they all said and turned into different directions.

Just then, a familiar voice blasted through Ranae's ears. "Hey Nae! Over here!" Ranae turned around to see Mariam running towards her like she was chasing after a kite. "Oh hey Mariam you ready?" Ranae replied. "I was born ready!" Mariam said. "Lets go." But little did Ranae know, that that same night, her life would be completely different. It would change her thinking. Maybe even herself.

The cafeteria room smelled of fried chicken and muck mixed in together and it was crowded with people. There were green and orange ribbons on the walls, tables with tableclothes spread out on top, and food pans covered on the tables in the back. There was a DJ table to the side with stereos to each end and a spanish looking guy with curly hair and headphones on behind it fiddling with a record. "The cafeteria actually looks nice for once." Ranae snapped. "I know right!" Mariam said.

Mariam had a fan girl personality. Not that she was, but she was also pretty and had longer hair than most girls in the school and her eyes were very pretty with a goldish color. Her and Ranae had went to the same Elementary School together and now they are in the same Junior High. Colleen always respected her old school, and everytime Ranae, Krista, or Penelope brung up P.s. 140, she had quite an attitude about it. But she still wasn't the only one coming from her old school.

"Lets get something to eat", Mariam said looking over at the food table. She sashayed her way over and Ranae followed. "Ooohhh", she awed. "I wonder who made those!" "The cupcakes look really good". Ranae answered.

They ate and talked at the table, still no sign of Penelope, Krista, or Colleen anywhere. Ranae started to worry, but having Mariam with her calmed her down a little. Without Mariam, she would haved probably freaked out over nothing like usual. "Lets go dance", Mariam said excitedly heading her way over to the dance space. The song "Wobble Baby" played and a few Taylor Swift. While they were dancing, they talked about the hit show "The Walking Dead" they were both fans of. Even though Colleen hated that show because Ranae thought it was better than Colleen's favorite "Pretty Little Liars". Ranae's hair was sweat out and frizzy from all the dancing and they both went into the Gym to get some water from the fountain. As soon as they entered the Gymnasium, Mariam spotted a short boy with red and black gym shorts near the boy's basketball team. "Look! There's Adam. Isn't he sooo cute?" Mariam squealed. But Ranae saw a tall guy with a little afro and blue shorts. She wasn't paying attention to any Adam. "Yes oh my god he's mine", Ranae answered. Mariam saw who Ranae had her eye on and nearly gawked. "Ew! Not him, I mean Adam!" Ranae shook. "Oh! I thought you were talking about him. He's way more cuter than Adam." "Whatever, you weren't getting him anyway", Mariam said making a mocking face.

When they got their water, and exited the gym, Krista, Penelope, and Colleen bumped right into them. "Oh my gosh! Where were you guys? You had me so worried! Next time you go to your house, I'm coming just to make sure you-", Ranae cried but Penelope cut her off. "Chill Nae!" Krista was just looking for her sneakers". Ranae just gave her a look that said "I don't care" and returned back to what she had to say. "Guys oh my god you would not believe what just happened! You see that guy, over there with the blue shorts and sneakers?" She pointed. "Thats him! But I cannot believe he saw me like this. My hair is crazy and I had to walk right by him!" Colleen flinched. "Wait, you like Toby?" Ranae immediately got excited. "Is that his name? How do you know him?! Could you introduce me?" Ranae asked curiously. "Stop! I know him because... Well.., ok fine. Annika Wright likes him." Colleen said. "Your best friend Annika?!" Ranae gasped.

Annika was popular, pretty, but she wasn't even in Junior High yet. And yes, she was that popular. She had a 6th grade in her Elementary school so she'll be coming next year. She went to the afterschool beacon though. Which was held at the same school that Ranae went to. Thats how she knew some people. Others, well.., I guess you could say social media.

"Yes", Colleen answered. "You shouldn't like him he's ugly anyways". "No!" Ranae snapped. "I don't care if she likes him. I want you to help me get him!" Just then Toby brushed past her. "Excuse me", he said softly. They all moved silently. "Oooooooo, Ranae!" They all mocked her when he was out of earshot. Ranae shook. Why did I let this happen to myself? She thought to herself.
