It was a cold day in France, July 23, 1915. A young woman by the name of Marie Marington was walking down the street. She set off for her job as a newspaper editor. "Hello Ms. Marington, how's life h?"Mr. Winslow said. "Well, Elliot said he would meet me here for a surprise."Marie replied as she skipped to the park. She waited a while until she saw the handsome Elliot, his face gleaming with light, big muscles, and was six foot five. Every woman's dream. "Oh Elliot, what's your surprise?"Marie said as she wrapped her arms around his chest. "I'm going to protect this country by going to this war going on, madam."Says Elliot. "What, you can't just leave me here! You're gonna get yourself killed!"Marie yelled. "It's for a great cause, m'lady."He said as he boarded the French army jeep. "Elliot, you cheater."Marie said, tears dripping down her scarlet carpet dress. The young man waved his goodbyes to his sweetheart. She ran and ran but the jeep was just too fast. Later that day she cried in her bedroom. Her tears piled on her face and her hand shaking. She tossed and turned all night, especially at midnight. Crows flew over her house circling all night. At dawn she woke up. She made herself a pot of tea, as it warmed up her hands, it warmed up her heart. Even though deep down she was sad the tea made one nerve in her body happy. Months and months passed and never got any letters from Elliot. She wanted to sneak into an army base but that would be against the law. "Extra Extra, Mr. Winslow has an affair with my wife."The newspaper guy said. "I'll take one."Marie replied. She saw Elliot holding an infantry rifle next to another man. The topic was about women recruits to help iron, fold, and clean clothes. She saw her opportunity and mailed a resume to the base. Three weeks later she got the job. She couldn't wait to see Elliot only to realize she was in a different group, a group of men who were not anything like Elliot. But from this experience, she also learned new things, like cigarettes can be smoked the other way, or how to shoot a gun. She cooked meals that made the men giddy. One day she was sent to training camp c. "Elliot, you're-you're alive."She said, shocked. "Of course I am."He said with someone on his side. "Who is that?"Marie asks. "My girlfriend. We have been together for three months."He replied. "I thought I was your girlfriend. You cheated!?!?!"Marie shouted. Elliot pulled something out of his pocket, it was a gun. He pointed right at Marie's face, then aimed down and shot her leg. "Ow, why would you do that?!?!"Marie screamed in vain. "Don't tell me who's my girlfriend."He said.

Chapter 2: Beyond Repair.

She wrapped her wound with some bandages and drank some wine, cheap wine. Elliot walked to her. "Don't get near me you monster."She threatened him. "I'm just here to apologize, so, sorry I guess,"Elliot said. "I just wanted you to know I didn't mean it, I was just tired and didn't feel like talking." She didn't exactly think it was sincere, she just wanted more answers about that lady. "Who was that, who was she?"She asked. "Some lady I wanted to hook up with."He replied. Then she walked away...

A week passed, and she was tired of cleaning the dishes and cleaning clothes, then asked the general if she could get in with the action. "Young lady, you're not a soldier. You're merely a worker."He said. One day the men were getting packed up for the war. Before they got packed up she kissed Elliot. "Be home safe, my love."She said to him. They drove away, he waved back like before. "You're a lucky lady, Marie. Very, very lucky."A Commander said. "He's already taken. Not by me, no."She said. "Why don't I show you something."the Commander replied. He showed her a truck. "Go on, drive it towards no man's land."he said. "What, I ca-"She got cut off. "Now, do as I say. Drive to your destination of love."he chimed. "I can't possibly chase after him in no man's land. It's too dangerous for me."She said in a wispy voice. "Do it. You won't regret it."He demanded. She got on and started it. She went straight fast, for the time. She saw the jeep Elliot was in. He looked right at her and had a confused face. She tried to catch up but then one of the tires got hit by a rock. The truck flipped and crashed. She got really injured with many cuts and broken bones. "My bonesssss..."
