I wake up. Where am? I hear people cheering. Blinking a few times the room becomes a little clearer. I try to talk. Nothing.
I start struggling. Panicking.
Get me out of here.
"Doctor!" I hear people shout.
I see a tall man in white walk in.
"Hey, Alex, I am Dr. Santon calm down. You're okay. Can you move your right arm?"
I struggle to lift it but I do.
"Good now can you blink once."
I blink.
"Now twice."
I blink twice.
"Good. Now I'm going to ask you some questions. Blink once for yes, twice for no."
I blink once to affirm.
"Alex, do you know where you are."
I blink twice.
"You are in the Adamsville Hospital." He informs me. "Do you know why you could be here?"
Why am I in the hospital? None of this makes sense. I have to be dreaming. I try to talk. There's a tube in my mouth. I start choking I can't breathe. Everyone is screaming. The doctor pulls out the tube it's so long. Why is it in me? I keep coughing. It burns.
"Alex about a month ago there was a shooting at your school. Do you remember that?"
I try to speak again, but it hurts too much.
I blink twice. This has to be a dream there is no way. It's only August. I haven't even been to school yet. I start panicking.
"Okay, I think that is enough for today. I am going to leave, Alex, I will be back in later to check up on you. Try to calm down and get some sleep. I'm going to ask all visitors leave also."
I feel someone kiss my forehead.
I fall asleep again.
. .
Waking up I see I'm still in the same room.
No one is here so I just sit trying to observe the room. I'm hooked up to so many machines. I try lifting my arms it is so hard. I still can't manage any words.
Why am I here? I manage to lift my blanket after I feel a sharp pain shoot down my leg ending at mid thigh. My leg.
Where is it?
A doctor walks in.
"Hi, Alex." He says. "Can you wave at me?"
I wave at him very weakly. Why is it so hard? Then I point at my leg.
"Alex, during the shooting you were shot in the leg. It was bleeding for such a long time. Then the shooter hit you with his car. Rammed you into a building. You managed to get everything out of the way besides your left leg. It was smashed into a brick wall and came off."
I start crying uncontrollably. How am I supposed to walk?
"You are lucky that he hit your left leg and not your other. You could have had no legs if he hit the other leg." He explains to me. "Alex, what you went through was horrible."
I start shaking and crying harder as everything comes back to me and I relive the whole thing.
