The Winter months at the castle were cold and harsh. All the windows remained shut and covered out of fear that a chilly draft would appear. All three girls would occupy themselves throughout the day despite there not being much to do. Cassandra would follow her mother around, Daniela would lock herself in the library till supper, and Bela would stay near the kitchen. You have worked here for several months now and your work showed it. You never got to see Lady Dimitrescu aside from eating at supper. You still weren't use to the fact that you knew what they were eating at the table and were forced to watch. It was probably the only reason they invite you to supper, to see your facial expressions. Today was a different day though. Everyone was in an unusual place at an unusual time.

Daniela was in her bedroom most of the day. It worried you that maybe something bad happened to her. Bela was mainly in the kitchen but stepped out to help Lady Dimitrescu. You were dusting off the picture frames in the hallway when you heard "To hell with the ceremony!" It made your spine shiver to hear Lady Dimitrescu angry. her voice was much louder than Bela's which made it all the more terrifying. You slowly walked to Lady Dimitrescu's bedroom door, knocking twice. Cassandra slowly opened the door a small crack to whisper through it. "Now isn't a good time, [Y/N]." You nod and turn around when your hear Lady Dimitrescu say "Its fine, send them in."

Your heart pounded through your chest as Cassandra opened the door fully allowing you to walk through, you felt a cold hand rub your back as you walk through the door. It was Cassandra trying to calm you down as you approached Lady Dimitrescu. You were shocked to see her on the bed, her white dress in her hands. It was torn near the shoulder. "Miss Dimitrescu, what happened?" You saw her shoulders relax downward after she caught her breath. "A tree snagged it on the way to the castle coming from a meeting with Mother Miranda. The maiden who made this dress is no longer with us." She lowered her head to sigh before getting up. "If I may ask, would you like me to sew it back together?" you ask. Her eyes gaze at you in surprise.

"New maiden, you sew?" You nod in response and Cassandra smiled. Lady Dimitrecu slowly walked over to you, regaining her composure with her tall stance and placed her hand over your head in a loving gesture. "Well, we cant have those talents of yours go to waste. Cassandra, show [Y/N] to the stock room and find my old threads and needles. She nods and responds "yes mother." As Cassandra takes your hand, she guides you downstairs through the main hall. You wanted to ask her something that's been on your mind all day. " So, miss Cassandra, I have to ask something, but I don't know a good way to put it." She turns her head to you and waits for you to ask it. "I noticed that Daniela hasn't been in the library all day and she probably locked herself in her room for a reason, but I cant figure out what that reason is." Cassandra rubbed your back again and smiled. "She does this every year. Its her birthday tomorrow and she always hated how its cold and no where to celebrate it. There's only so much to do around here and we couldn't do much aside from what we do everyday." You try to think to yourself and sigh. As you both reach a basement past the kitchen, you could see boxes everywhere. You both dug through at least twenty boxes of random objects, looking for sewing materials.

Cassandra giggled and pulled out a taxidermy racoon from a box and poked you over the shoulder with it to scare you. As you jumped in surprise, your back hit a tall stack of boxes and they fell on you, knocking things to the floor. Cassandra helped you up, brushing the dust off you and smiled. "You okay, lovely?" As you nod, you looked down and saw a book on the floor. The cover was metallic gold and had a red string as the cover photo and it was called "The Red String of Fate". You picked it up and glanced at it, wondering what it was about. "Hey miss Cassandra, has Daniela ever read this book before?" Cassandra looks at the pages and made a read the cover. "I don't believe she has. I've never seen this book before and it looks similar to one of her romance books. You should give it to her tonight when you see her." You nod and continue looking for the sewing materials.
